As far as trying out the COW or Schecter Blackjack-7's, I have yet to see one in the flesh at any local store. GC carries quite a few Jackson and Schecter imports, but the three GCs in our area almost never have new 7-string guitars, not even the cheapo Ibanez 7321.
I live right by the GC in Boston near BU and I go in there pretty often. If they get a COW in stock (6 or 7-string) I'll definitely give it a shot. It seems like all they ever have is DK2, DKMG(T), KE3, SLSMG, and a JS30RR. I've never seen a 7-string of any brand in there

Yeah, it's really pathetic. The Fairfax store got a Petrucci, that was ordered for someone, and I talked someone I know there into letting me play it. Very nice, but I hate basswood.
Otherwise, you see clapped-out used Ibanez occasionally. Sad.
Division - American Metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on Facebook.
Regarding GC, the only good 7-string thing that ever happened to me there was that I got a used 7620 at the Seven Corners store for $299 because they mistook it for a 7420 (which they also mistakenly thought was Korean). At that same time, they had a used UV777BK that they were trying to get $1100 for, despite some nasty dings and a slightly off-center trem, which resulted in the high-E sitting off the edge of the fretboard.
I've never seen a single new 7 at that GC, or any other. The old Mars Music in Springfield used to get some. I kinda miss those guys.

I can't believe they charge as much as they do for those Petrucci. They play great, but they just don't sound very good. Like you said, basswood...

I've only tried the sixes, but I agree. Put an alder body on one, and I'd order one without hesitation. Heck, if they had an alder body, maybe Petrucci's palm-muting parts would sound a lot better...
That Mars music in Springfield is gone? They used to have seven strings alot. A few years back you used to see 7 strings in the GC in uh..Fairfax was it? I rarely go there anymore so memory hazy . Anyways they used to have 7 string schecters and Ibanez for sure, not sure about jacksons, hell I dunno if jackson had any 7 string production models back then? Anyways maybe they are rarer these days than I thought.
Wow, Chris, Mars has been gone for about two years. Tell me, how's life under that rock?
I remember they used to have rows of seven strings there. They had to have at least 10 LTDs at any given time, plus some Washburns and the occassional Jackson
E-bay just had a RR7R ,I think thats what its called with a price of $399 with case and no bids when it ended.I would modd the Hell out of it.Like the one that someone posted before with the white body and black pinstripes.I would make mine black with gold/brass hardware.

Cold and very damp. Sounds about right though, its been maybe 3 years since I went there. I usually stick to the 10 mile radius stores unless I am in the market for a guitar.
