Crude, but MAYBE effective. The resistor thing is meant to keep clarity when you turn the volume down, isn't it?
I'm fairly pleasantly surprised at the Duncan Designed pickups in my DK-2. I don't find them to be especially hot though, but they have a decent tonality to them. For a $400 guitar it's pretty
hard to beat!
