Re: what do they go for new?

The pentagram is about as much a mark of satan as Ronald McDonald.

What you are saying McDonald's is not satanist?

ahhhhh! Well I am sorry to say that after 4 days of owning it, I think I am gonna take it back....Dont get me wrong I love its playability, comfort and looks...I just hate the rhythm sounds...after spending close to 2 grand, I am not sure I want to spend yet another couple of hundred for a new pickup....I am not sure I wanna risk it still sounding lousy after the PU change...maybe I'll trade for a USA...

The pentacle is pagan. Pentagram is Satanic. There is a difference FWIW.

[/ QUOTE ]
I believe the difference is minimal, and that the satanic version is an afterconstruction, but I realize this is not the place to discuss religious symbolism. And the inlays is the reason I wouldn't get one either. Whatever they may symbolize, it's something I don't subscribe to.

Same here. I wouldn't want to get into a discussion about the inlays in my guitar; after all, I don't know much about them.
Apart from that I think sharkfins look much better anyways...

You can't change your EQ to fix what you dont like? Is it too bassy/muddy?

Re: what do they go for new?

Thats the problem there is hardly any bass, the chugga chugga stuff just sounds wimpy...I put it through my 5150 and a side by side comparison with any of my other guitars shows that the bond has a weaker tone on the low end....disappointing....

Re: what do they go for new?

I did some research into this...

Guitar World Aug 2004
pg. 190 A Vulgar Display of Power-the guitar rigs of the stars

"Jimmy goes for that really dirty, muddy sludge sound," explains guitar tech Trey Heflin, "whereas Kevin aims more for a bright, edgy sound."

"Nails on a chalkboard is a pretty good description of my tone," offers Bond.

On his favorite gear...

"Definitely my custom Randy Rhoads Jacksons," says Bond.
"I was a Gibson man for years and never thought I would change, but these are the best-sounding and playing guitars I've ever had."

On his secret weapon...

"Once again, my Jacksons," says Bond. "When you love the guitars you're using, it definitely makes you play better."

Bond's rig as of Ozzfest 04

2 Randy Rhoads custom shop-red is main, green is backup
2 Peavey 5150II heads pushing Mesa cabs

Re: what do they go for new?

Thats interesting about Kevin's rig I think this guitar would definitly facilitate that sound...

When I took back the guitar today I spent some time playing the COW 7 through a mesa and Krankenstein. The COW7 had a lot more meat and substance to the tone, and I was really digging it. Then the store clerk came in a plugged in a early 90s japanese dinky loaded up with an emg 81 and whoa! what a difference! It had much more pronounced mid and bass presence with the identical settings on the amp...I left the store with nothing (other than 2k back in my pocket)

Again I love the looks and playability of the BRRV guitars, but to my ears, there appears to be something missing from the sound...my hunch is that the wood is what the BRRV is made of is what makes up for tonal the difference. I am not sure an EMG would fix the BRRV....

Re: what do they go for new?

Do you know Kevin's band? It's called Superjoint Ritual (godammit, hehe) and the sounds you get from this guitar is just perfect to play this kind of music, not much chugga-chugga there... I'm myself a big adept of this band but the music I wanna play requires me to chug-chug quite a lot, so I'm swaping the pickup too (a dimebucker, can't go wrong with that one)... I'll let you guys know how it turns out (if it's of any interest to you guys of course).

Re: what do they go for new?

Though the sound your guitar was making may be the intended sound by KB, you still can't judge all production of one guitar model based on one specimen. Wood and other things vary too much from one guitar to the next. There are great and crappy (or at least less than great) examples of nearly every guitar model out there.

i love that guitar but i still dont think that Kevin Bond should have his own signature model.

Re: what do they go for new?

I think Jackson recognized that they would have an instrument that would appeal to many players-both for KB and COW series guitars-that didn't automatically scream "that's _____'s guitar!"

For instance, you buy a Washburn or Dean Dime model and the connection is automatically there. Some folks shy away from that and, in my opinion, these two new artist models are pretty close to the guitars a lot of people wanted and what's hot right now like single hums and string thru's.

And, at least to me, Jackson seems to be darkening it's image. Magazine ads, grave robber t-shirts, etc. These two guitars fit that bill for sure.
