Thre is a guy in town offering one for over $700 CDN. That seems like a lot... am I wrong?

Well, they're new from $399 US for a basic black one, to like $469 for Crimson Swirl, at www.americanmusical.com or www.musiciansfriend.com so what's $700 CDN, about $450 or $500? If it's new and Jacksons are scarce locally, that'd be okay, but if it's used, they're going for $250 to $300 used on Ebay, so I'd look there.
If you want a new one, AMS will even do 3 installments on your creditcard, which is how I got mine. First payment was $150.66 due to shipping, then 2 payments of $133.66 each 30 and 60 days after the first one. I had the guitar 2 days after I ordered and made the first payment and it was sweet out of the box!

It is one year old, so after looking on da Bay, I'm guessing it's worth $200-$300US (say $300-400 CDN).
He's not going to be happy when I tell him what I'd pay.....Comment
