Well I swung by today and picked it up. Thanks for the info. I asked to take the back plates off to look at the wiring since there was static when you adjust the volume and the guy wasn't too happy about that, I can only imagine what he would have said if I asked to take the neck off. Hahaha

Anyway, serial is 9704925, so that makes it alder. I'll dismantle it when its time to change the strings. Thanks for the help!

Basswood is ok, the EMG HZ are passive pickups. Does your DK have a battery slot? You could hold out for an 81 or 85. Or do like I did, and try a J90C.

I just took the neck off and its Sep 2003. I think you have a database you're keeping, if so, feel free to add that one in there.

              Thanks again for the help

Thanks! The guesstimate method of dating guitars is often rather inaccurate, but this DKMG reveals that the rollover to 97##### serials occured earlier than we thought.

Nah, I just forgot to add one of my favorite words: approximately

I base this 2003/2004 stuff on the fact that I took delivery of a brand new KVX10 9701xxx right around Jan 2004. It was probably built in late '03, so I figured a 9704 should have been an early '04. Also, at that time, I worked at GC, so I perused new ser #s obsessively.

OK, I was close at least.

It should also be noted that there may be an element of randomness in how bolt-on serials end up on the guitars.

We don't know what the production facilities look like - but consider that they have hangers with serialized neck plates. Then when they need a chrome neck plate, they just pick one from the "chrome neckplate hanger". There is also no guarantee that the guy stamping the plates put them on a shelf in perfect order. Hell - for all we know, they may have the plates in buckets that get refilled on a regular basis.

Has he put a neck on this thing yet? I figure if Newc's WRMG-M isn't gonna see the light of day, how about putting a DK2M neck on that DKMG body?

i did not see any place for a battery but i kinda just grabbed it up and put it on layaway cuz there was another guy interested but couldnt get up the money. so if i got burnt i kinda deserve it because i havent even played it.hell, it was a late model jackson for $ 250 and my kelly sure sounds good, so this one w/ emgs must really rock.

A lot of the early Charvel imports were made of basswood. It isn't like its going to sound like tin. Also, the battery slot is probably in the control route.

Affirmative. That's where the one on mine is.
You would have to remove the control cover to see it.
