I'm not sure how well the EMG-Hz sound in other guitars, but my DXMG is only the second guitar I didn't want to change the pickups. The first being my Gibson explorer. Gibson pups from the 80ies are so powerfull, massive tone.

Interestingly, I got rid of the Duncans on both my DK1 and SL1.

    DXMG/EMG-HZ- damm fine combo.

Re: Sarj is thinkin hard about getting a DXMG in GMG..

I think the EMG-HZ's are fine. I always change the pickups in my guitars to either the SD JB-59 combo, SD Custom Custom-Alnico II, or the DiMarzio PAF pro combo. I find that the HZ's are comparable to those pickups (tonally each is unique, as is their output characteristics...I DO NOT think the HZ's sound exactly like any of those)...now if I liked battery powered pickups, they might be a different story. Likewise, I don't play with excessive preamp distortion...I go for strictly classic metal sounds. I like some power amp distortion in my sound.

I did change the bridge on my DXMG to an OFR, and all the black hardware to chrome, including pickup rings (the guitar was a little too much like a kirk hammett rip off guitar being all black). I'll try to post a picture later...

The attitude on the HZ's seems like the EMG guys consider them to be cheap knock offs, like Duncan Design or those new Duncan Performers (yuck...$29 humbucker?). Now the EMG select pickups are more in line with Duncan Design...HZ's as raw pickups are $75 or so, which is about the cost of a "real" EMG...

At the end of the day it's up to you to decide if the HZ's are crap or not. Go try a guitar with some and see what you think.
        GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

        and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

The DXMG kicks but. All I have to say is that it is the first guitar that I have tried or owned that the neck pickup didn't sound muddy when I switched from the bridge pickup to the neck pickup while playing.
