  • Whats that SLSMG neck profile like?

    Just curious....

Wide, skinny, what would it be comparable to, a USA soloist, or more like a thin flat ibanez?

Im also curious about it's neck radius. That tune-o-matic would be fun to replace with a Fishman Piezo T-O-M!

    Any owneers care to comment?

The necksa are thinner than the a US soloist. Kinda like a old Kelly Pro or a KE3 neck. Not quite the same profile as a Stealth but is thin and fast nd has nice big frets. I like them (don't own one yet but will and have played them at work. If your thinking of getting one and you like thin necks and a really light weight guitar with tone than this is the beast for you.

      Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, I DONT like thin necks. I went from an Ibanez Wizard neck to a JAckson to a Wolfgang neck. I much prefer the thicker styles, I have larger hands and when playing chords for extended periods, I dont notice any cramping like I did with the Ibanez!

I just wish I could get a neckthru 24 fret soloist with a fixed bridge and wolfgang style neck... :s C shaped and oiled

The closest you're going to get to that, as far as frets and shape, is a KV2T. Jackson doesn't really have anything right now that falls into the "Huge neck shredder guitar" category. About the closest neck shape on a Soloist style would be on a Swee-Tone Archtop or Bent Top.

Old thread, but does anyone offhand know the exact thickness specs on these, the Jackson website DOESNT have the specs for these guitars up.

Im debating on one, but would like some more information, so I can compare it to previous guitars and how I enjoyed their playability.

I think the SLSMG is .735 - .810 aka very thin (feels good to me, but many don't like it)

I don't know the dead on exact specs, but my neck is approx. 3/4" thick, 1 3/4" at the nut, and 2 1/4" at the 24th fret. Of course being made in Japan it was probably not made uses inches, but I hope this helps out some. It's definately not shaped like an Ibanez neck, not the ones I've played anyway. I to have big hands and can't stand the feel of an Ibanez neck. Definately too flat in my opinion. The slsmg is farely round on the back. Flattens out a bit, but not really too noticeable by looking at it or playing it. I love this neck profile. It feels good to me and I don't have any cramping issues. I usually wear at least an XL glove if it helps any. 6'3" 230lbs, not that it matters, but could be useful for comparison. Hope this helps. Great guitar BTW.

It's pretty similar to the SL2H that I got from you actually...

Apart from the DXMG, I thought the neck profile on the remaining MG Series were all identical to each other(??).
