Re: DXMG: Noisy pots.

Yeah, I love Guitar Xpress too! Besides the DK2-BOF, I also bought a DK2S from them. Like 3 days after I received the guitar, I got a call from them asking me if I was happy with the guitar I received, did it play well for me, etc etc. They rule in the customer service and satisfaction department, and how can ya go wrong when you can say that about the #1 largest Jackson dealership in the US?! I have heard that Easton Guitars is comparable to deal with in ordering an axe as well....

Breeze, The 5% is what I use. Red can

Wanna hear something funny, my new DK-2 just started doing the same thing yesterday, lol. No prob though, I have a set of pickups and pots and switches on the way so they won't be in there long. I like to not have to worry about stuff. The middle of a gig is not the time for a 30c pot to fail if you know what I mean. Peace

One question: How would I clean the pots? I've opened the back of the guitar, but the pots seem to be of the closed kind. Will I have to clean them from above? In that case; how?!

Re: DXMG: Noisy pots.

Just spray the cleaner into the open slot in the back of the pot and work the pot back and forth from 1 to 10 a few times.

Check this out though...Right after I posted last night the vol pot on my DK-2 really started crapping out so I opened it up and cleaned it with contact cleaner but it didn't help. After inspecting it a little more and looking all the sloppy wiring and cheapazoid parts in there I went out and bought some good WD 500K pots and a CTS 5-way wafer switch and rewired the whole freakin guitar! Sounds a little better, and is a much cleaner wiring job. Now I don't have to worry it about it going out in the middle of a gig and when I install my new Duncans it will be clean and easy and I won't have to fight with all of the nasty spaghetti that was in there.

After seeing what was inside of mine, my advice is to rip those crappy pots and switch out of there and put some good stuff in. If you can't do it yourself have a tech do it for you. It will be money well spent. The stock electronics in these guitars is CRAP. Too bad 'cause the rest of the guitar is just awesome. Guess they had to cheap out somewhere. Peace.

CTS and Switchcraft parts.

I'm wondering why you guys are having such electrical problems.

I've had both a DK-2 and a DXMG, no electrical problems at all.

They are about a year and a half old..

I have now bought some DeoxIt, and also some Cailube etc. (i bought the "Caig Essentials" set, so I wouldn't have to get an entire can). Would someone care to explain exactly how I should do to get the best results? the pots seem to be closed... am i wrong? how can i see if they are, or if they're not?

Re: DXMG: Noisy pots.

There should be a little indentation on the edge of the back of each pot. That is open to the interior, and you put the little straw into that opening and spray it generously, then twist the knob back and forth several times and let them sit for a few minutes. The slot in the tone pot may be obscured by the capacitor being connected to it, so you may have to look close on that one.

They may be bad pots, but if I recall
Guitarxpress is in Oklahoma, which is often dry and dusty. They may just have picked up some dust in storage. If not, replace the pots like Steve said, and you may want to do thatn anyway, but be aware you may have to ream out the holes to mount the good quality pots. I had to do that changing the volume pot in my PS-2.
Might spiderweb crack your paint around the hole, so maybe let your tech take that risk!

Re: DXMG: Noisy pots.

Yep - had to ream the holes for the pots and drill the 5-way switch screw holes out a bit. Not to bad but be careful. There is not a whole lot of wood arounf those switch holes.

My virgin post guys. I am a long time Jackson lover hailing from wide-awake Dallas, TX. I have three Jacksons and one Charvel currently. I JUST got a barely used DXMG and premium molded case on an eBay deal for $300. She is STELLAR!!!

I love the passive EMG's through my Marshall AVT275 2X12. You can guess I'll be selling the JS20 to keep the peace. I am telling you, I have a BC Rich, an Ibanez and have played everything. Jackson's are tops. Rock on Skully!

She's a Japanese. I really notice a difference in the EMG HZ pickups though. All my other Jacksons are stock coils. The EMG's are very even tonally. Meaning it's weird not to hear the 3 highest strings be shrill at all. I am used to the screaming, super-hot sound. I blend in MUCH more into the CD's I play to and it sound's very "mixing boarded". Smoother and more professional. Another thing. The pickups are perfectly quiet. No hum, hiss or feedback even when I do things that are supposed to create those things. Only one day using the new DXMG and this may change, but I believe I have hit the "quality begins here" strata of the Jackson line.
