• New Schaller

Just replaced the JT580LP with the Schaller it looks excellent in the route as if it was routed for the Schaller only gap is at the rear but if i want to ill buy some OFR locking pins as they can share each others hardware, anyway back to my question the problem i found when my new black schaller arrived today is that the R3 locking nut sits quite a bit higher than the import one thats on the neck at the moment. plus the schaller locking nut has bolts to secure it to the neck as seen on Ibanez guitars where as on the imports they have the screws to secure it from the top. Is it really worth getting the neck altered for the new locking nut to fit or do i stick with the import one. Is there really any difference in materials & workmanship of both nuts?

if the original nut is the same color as your new bridge. i wouldn't alter a thing. i see no need to replace the old nut for a new one.

I don't think he is. Remember, he mentions the empty space at the back of the tremolo route, which suggests that he used the standard Schaller.

            Re: New Schaller

I bought my schaller from Warmoth it was only $211 thats including shipping it worked out at £121 not bad for such a great piece of engineering (Not far behind the OFR).With schaller being behind on orders as i was told i had no choice to buy from the states as all the UK dealers have run out of stock & they wont get any in for a while yet im glad i did i ordered the trem on the 7th december & received it today 9th december very efficient are warmoth. It looks well placed on the guitar theres about half a inch gap between the back edge of the trem to the rear of the route but mind you when the saddles are moved back for lower string gauge the gap doesnt look out of place. For the current series of Jackson imports i would recommend the schaller over the OFR any day only reason being the baseplate on the OFR is 2mm shorter than the schaller & believe me 2mm is alot when you see the gap between the side route & the trem plate.when i get the locking nut sorted ill post a few pics at different angles so anyone else thinking of doing it will get a good idea of what it will look like in the route.

              Re: New Schaller

Can't use OFR string-lock screws on Schaller saddles - two different sizes.

              Unless they've changed that recently?

              I wish they would

And the Schaller nut is taller than the Japanese-made nuts, and OFR nuts are taller still.

No those are more for Ibenhad and ESPee.

Jackson's trems have a different post spacing IIRC

According to the OFR parts list on stew mac the end pins will fit the Schaller FR-II Not that i need them now im kinda used to the gap at the rear with the the bridge & guitar being black you dont notice it that much.
