Re: I hate chrome hardware

i dont like chrome on anything...guitars, bikes, cars etc. Its a little too tacky imo.

anyways ive heard that chrome hardware lasts longer. but i actually like the way black hardware fades with use.

Re: I hate chrome hardware

Black is #1 in my book. I agree that Jackson should switch to black hardware for its trans finish guitars. Chrome would be a second choice. Like Kii above, the only time I can tolerate gold is on a JEM 7VWH.

P.S. I liked the brushed satin chrome.

I dont like chrome at all either... however, I REALLY like the satin chrome, which is really easy to duplicate btw. All you need to do is beadblast chrome parts using light pressure, and it comes out great!

Black would be the best, However Satin Chrome looks alright prefer it over regular chrome anyday.

Depends 100% on the finish, I have guitars w/Chrome, Chrome + Black, Black, and Gold , and they all look great

This is true. Take a Soloist or Dinky in trans green and it has to have chrome hardware. Other colors need black or gold to look the best. I have a beat up RR EX that looks best with the satin chrome hardware too

Re: I hate chrome hardware

I don't like black hardware on white guitars - makes 'em look kida plastic like those Mickey Mouse guitars.

Don't like gold on similar colors (like red) - too close together in the spectrum

Gold on trans green or trans blue is nice once you see it, but to think about it without seeing it leaves you feeling ill

Ideally the hardware and body color should be at opposite ends of the spectrum, with the exception of white.
-Black with either chrome (for the Gothic look) or gold (Les Paul Custom).
-White with gold (Angelic, like Randy's white LPC), but chrome with white is too "shiny" and "Vegas".
-Solid or metallic/pearl/sparkly blue, green, red, yellow, orange, purple, and light natural finishes look better with black, because it doesn't compete with the finish for attention.
-All trans colored finishes look good with gold, except for "Natural" unless it's natural mahogany. Chrome makes these look dimmer than the hardware, which is then too shiny.
-All graphics look best with black hardware, because it doesn't draw the eye away from the graphic (with the noted exceptions of Chuk's Skulls Warrior and Joe's Dragon Warrior where the trem and knobs were painted). 2 and 3-color graphics can work with a mix of gold and black hardware, like black saddles on a gold Floyd baseplate, especially if the graphic has a lot of black in it already.
-Black on black on black on black (blackout) simply defeats the purpose of playing live, IMO. You may as well just send a CD to a club and let them get down on it
Or just hang a thick heavy curtain in front of the stage and turn out all the lights.

Re: I hate chrome hardware

it's all good to me. The chrome Floyd on my Model 2 looks great over the faded white of the finish, as does the chrome on my dark metallic green 550XL. The black hardware on my trans yellow Fusion Plus, and my black US Fusion look pretty smart too.

It's all a matter of context and what works for a given situation. The black Shannons look pretty smoking to me with chrome hardware. Not cheap at all.

Chrome is one of those mysterious hardware finishes thats harder to match color wise, however there are some finishes it really works on. Trans black, straight black, mocha etc. Those go nice with gold as well. Gunmetal grey looks badass with chrome, particularly the satin brushed chrome. Blue can look very nice with chrome. I prefer gold but gold can have problems over time if its not properly taken care of. Black is the easiest to deal with, maintain and color match. But emerald green or a nice blue with gold hardware? Nothing beats it.
