• Rhoads Professional: Need Some Input

OK, one more time with respect for Mr. Randy Rhoads...

I've got a line on a Rhoads Professional and am not quite sure what it is or what it is worth so I am hoping you folks can help me out here. It's a charcoal metallic neck-through with what looks like a bound ebony board with shark fins, a Schaller\Floyd Licensed trem, and two humbuckers. It's got a black metal plate with three knobs and a three-way pickup switch and says Jackson "Professional" on the headstock. It looks like a winner to me but being new to Jacksons I am not all that sure. If you know what this is then please let me know. An approx value would be cool too. Thanks in advance.

FWIW, I would like to get it for around $350-400. Sound reasonable?

That's better!
Well, you've been around for 4 months and have 130 posts...surely you know a little bit by now?

OK, the guitar is a highly-regarded Made In Japan Rhoads PRO...from around 1990-1991...all the features of a USA Rhoads...production was stopped because it was biting into US Rhoads sales, etc etc, yada yada.
There have been lots of posts on them. The trem is the excellent Schaller JT-590. Valuation is 350 - 600 depending on condition. If you get it for 350-400 I'd say that's a good deal. Does this one come with a case? Gravy!

Re: Rhoads Professional: Need Some Input

Well here's the deal on this Rhoads..., This guy wants $400 + 40 for shipping and the case is torn up and from what he says not even usable.

If I could get him to $350 I might do it - BUT - I just bought the Charvel from my bud and haven't even paid him yet for it so, as sad as it sounds, I think I am going to have to pass on this one.

I haven't "officially" passed on it yet so if anybody here is interested in this then email me at [email protected] and I will put you in touch with the guy. After all, this should stay in the family, no?

Peace,
Frank-o

Re: Rhoads Professional: Need Some Input

$440 shipped even with a beater case is an extreme bargain - don't even waste your time haggling to $350.

By the way, how different is a Rhoads Std. Professional from this one?

I've just seen one in eBay for 250 euros and I'm thinking about getting it...

What electronics and hardware do these Std. models have?

Re: Rhoads Professional: Need Some Input

The STD has rosewood and dot inlays, and may be a bolt-on (some were neckthrough). The earlier Pro was way better - same as the USA version.

I found one a few years ago in white and stupidly passed on it. They are great guitars for the money. GO FOR IT!!!

further the std has a J580LP trem, a J50N in neck and a J50M in bridge position.

Well after much consideration I have passed on it and passed the guy's info on to the couple of folks who have emailed me. I agree it is a nice piece and somebody should grab it while it's hot.
