• Question about original Phil Collen model

Does anybody have any idea roughly how many of the original Phil Collen model's (not the onoes Jackson has put in the last few years, but the earlier funky shaped ones) were made?

It seems from what I can find on the web that they started out as an American model with a Kahler and then moved to a Professional model with the Floyd. Does that sound right?

I would really love one with a Kahler, but I am guessing they are harder to come by than the Professional models. Guess my best shot is ordering one from the Custom Shop if I want the Kahler?

    Thanks .

Only a few of the USA models had Kahlers on them. I think most had Floyds. And, I believe there were only less than 100 made. As for the Japanese Professional ones, I don't think anybody knows how many were made. But, from what I have heard, they were just as good as the USA models. Good luck finding one! I've been hunting one for over 10 years now!

They were made in both 1990 and 1991 - I was under the impression they only did a few in 1990, realised it cost too much to make, and then dropped it, but mine's got a "J1" number, which makes it a 91 Pro.

I think Brooks might have some numbers on how many were made, but I'm pretty sure all the USA models had Kahlers or tunamatic/stringthru - maybe one or two Floyds total.

If you do see another for sale, hock everything you can to get it - it's worth it. With the rarity and desireablility, do your best to backdoor it. If it's got a BIN under $1000, hit it without hesitation or someone else will.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Thanks for the insite. That seems to fit my memory on when and how they were made.

And you are right about price on evilBay. A Pro model ended at just under $1000, and that was the first one I remember seeing in a while.

Then again, you could always go to that jcguitars.com guy and buy the prototype:

I don't know the story behind it, but it is interesting to look at.

I think that's the one Brooks used to have - I saw the Ebay auction for it last year or year before when he got it, and he paid out the ass for it
