    Re: I\'m so exited...

This has been asked many times I think, but what does separate Jackson Stars-model from normal Jackson import?

Different models and specs etc (like a 24 fret Rhoads) and some shapes and goodies you dont get over here (like the NASL and the Vs with the Kahler bridges). Plus theyre only available to the Japanese market.

Okay, thanks. Does the same factory produce the stars and the normal imports?

Yes. The same factory that has been making the Jackson imports and the import Charvels for the past 20 years makes the Jackson Stars. They have to put "Stars" on the peghead for guitars to be sold in the Japanese market because of a trademark issue.

I couldn't leave the office until about 8:30pm last night (Ishibashi closes at 9) so I didn't get a chance to scope out what they had in stock.

But if it's only a difference of three weeks, you want a "new" one anyway, right?

I've heard this mentioned several times, but not really explained. Can somebody explain the trademark issue further?

              Re: I\'m so exited...

              Chad,

Jackson USA had a licensing agreement with Kyowa Shokai (a trading company) from the mid 80's to the early 90's, wherein Kyowa was allowed to market guitars using the name and logo "Jackson". In addition, Kyowa was the agent that imported Jackson USA guitars into Japan.

After the agreement expired, Kyowa gave up their distribution rights for Japanese made Jacksons, as well as their import rights.

The factory (Chu-shin gakki) that was making the Jackson/Charvel guitars apparently felt that there was a market for Jackson guitars in Japan, so while they continue to make the import (MIJ) Jacksons at their factory, they also sell the guitars that they make domestically (in Japan).

They are NOT allowed to use the Jackson name/logo in the Japanese market. That's why there were several brand names, such as Grover Jackson and Team GJ during the late 90's. They've settled on Jackson Stars for the time being.

If you are familiar with laws governing intellectual property (patents/trademarks), then you should be able to understand how licensing agreements are established for various different jurisdictions (US, Japan, Zimbabwe, etc.).
