Re: Performer series

my first jackson was a PS3T and it's still my main player. the action is awesome and once the crappy PUs got replaced there's nothing to complain about for me.

what happened to the neck of the PS3T in this catalogue btw?
I've seen one of these in a catalogue in my area too, years ago, but never seen one in person?!...

Re: Performer series

i have a PS-7 that i am putting back together. it seems really nice. but it just has jackson on the headstaock - no performer. would this be MIJ or MIK? the body is nice and solid, and the neck is decent, but the 12th fret dots are far apart.....

Re: Performer series

Performer Series guitars were originally made in Korea. The Korean made versions were available from early 1995 to late 1997 or early 1998. They produced them out of Japan for a VERY short time after that.

Re: Performer series

PS7 might have been Japan. That model is not listed in the 1995 brochure I have on the Performer Series or in the 1996 full-line catalog, but it is listed in the 1997 catalog, which was the "crossover" year for these.

Really? That's almost opposite of everything I've ever heard or read about them. I thought they started out in Japan (same as the Concept line) and were only made in Korea for a year or so.

What exactly makes a Korean version "inferior" to the Japanese version (as far as the body and neck go)? Substandard wood, bad shaping, bad fretwork, etc?

Performer series did not replace Professional series, it was 1 step below. Performer was the "entry level" series, like the JS series is now (although "general consensus" is that Performer > JS)

Did the professional series change to the pro series?

Re: Performer series

A 9xxxxxx serial number is Japanese.

Korean doesn't necessarily mean bad, but at the time, that was the place to go to build less expensive guitars. Just like anywhere else, you get some good ones and some bad ones. I played a few Performers that were fine, and am even tempted to pick up a PS-7 sometime.

The Pro and Professional names are sort of confusing. My Japanese Soloist (ebony board, MOP inlays) had a Professional logo, as does my Dinky XL (rosewood with MOP), but some models' "official" names contained "Pro". For instance, a Stealth Pro had an ebony fretboard and dot inlays, but the Stealth models that followed had rosewood boards and plastic dots despite having the Professional logo. The Professional logo disappeared in the mid/late `90s. As an example, you can find a DR-3 with or without the Professional logo, but current imports don't have any sort of model or series logo on them.

Re: Performer series

I've got a PS1, exactly the same as in that catalogue pick.

It's definitely low end, and I believe made in India.

It's got a really thin neck, and I really should have got rid of it by now.

But it's still here...It plays nice and it sounds nice. It was a very good Strat substitute before I got a Strat.

I think it's worth more to me as a player than the pitiful amount I woiuld get for it.

I've even gigged it a few times!

After I finish my deal with the Agile LP I'm going on a search for a PS3T Rhoads in Black.
