is this gonna be one of those $1000+ imports where nobody buys them because they can get a similar USA model for the same price?

believe me - if it's going to be a 1 hum jackson kept in the jackson style ( ie without pot leaf inlays/pentagrams etc - just plain sharkies) it'll sell like hot cakes especially if it'd have 24 frets

I voted for the 81. If Jackson would use the new quick connect type EMG's in this guitar it would be pretty easy to swap the 81 for an 85.

Of course they would. All EMGs come with the quick connector nowadays.

Voted Distortion. It's not like you're gonna be playin' SRV with the damn thing.

Voted Distortion just the way Randy wanted it.

That's because Randy probably never had a chance to try an EMG 81

Re: 1 Hum Rhoads

I vote distortion for the following:
It'd be cheaper to obtain than a 81 or 85 and electronics.
No need for a battery, and Jackon could always use one of the long ish electronics cavities so there's room for one if needed.
And well it'd be a kickass pickup I guess. I have yet to try one but I loved everything I heard.
However it's bright, and I'm not too sure whether this or an EMG81 would sound that good in an all Alder/Maple Rhoads... Could be very very bright for some people.
But again I use a Custom in a maple neck through guitar and I love it.

JB: Yes it's versatile, but eh it's a one hum Rhoads for god's sake! And personally I'm sure I'd prefer the Distortion anyway.
Dimebucker: Too much of a nice pickup. It's popular, but it's a sig model, and VERY bright. Also has a lot of haters, whereas the Distortion seems appreciated by more people (at least on the SD forums it appears so)
EMG 81: eh active and again, people have shared opinions.

Re: 1 Hum Rhoads

You don't need a separate battery cavity with a one-hum/one-knob wonder. 2 9-volts will easily fit in a San Dimas Route (but an Ontario Route will not work on a Rhoads).

And while Randy may never have tried any EMG, I'm sure he'd stick with the warmth and workability of a passive pickup.

I had an RR1 with a JB in the bridge. That's not a good pickup for a Rhoads.

John, is this going to be bolt on or neck-thru?

Oh... I thought the guitar wouldn't have the big route if it's just for one volume pot. If you do the long cavity that you sometimes get on explorers you'd take away less wood and still have enough room for a battery and an extra pot should it be needed...

Re: 1 Hum Rhoads

I made my choice in the poll, however it was difficult to choose without knowing what kind of wood is being used for the body and neck. I won't vote again, but is there any chance you could tell us?

I'd have to do the Distortion - George Lynch would approve!! What more could you ask for?

Distortion or JB.

For some reason I can't vote.... maybe because there is a 99 max cap on votes?
