  • Replacement hummers for a JS30 Rhoads

I want to replace the pickups in my JS30 Rhoads. More specifically, for right now, the bridge pickup. So whats the best one you guys recommend for my band's style, which you can hear right here. I really like the Duncan JB, but I also like EMG's (85). I have a DiMarzio Steve's Special in one of my other guitars, it's not too great for this stuff. Any ideas?

CVR2 not hot enough eh? JB won't have enough gain for you.

Try a Duncan Distortion or a Bill Lawrence L500XL

      I have both available

I think the 85 may be what you are after i'm not entirely sure, however a Duncan distortion wouldnt be too bad either

I have a Jackson CVR2 in my bridge position right now? I'm not familiar with the Jackson pickups so...thats all Chinese to me.

Those soundclips were done with an ESP/LTD EC-1000 in black with dual EMG-81's (mahogany body, set mahogany neck/ebony fretboard) into a Peavey 5150. I really like how they sound, not particularly on that album, but in general. I have found out lately that the 85's are a little thicker sounding. EMG's are in a TON of my guitars, I really like them alot. But whats hot in the passive market right now? I haven't kept up with them as of late. Our other guitarist has a Duncan Distortion in the bridge of his Schecter...and well...it sounds awful to me. It's got a lot of gain, but it's also very muddy, even on my setup which is really clear with any of my guitars.

What about a Duncan SH-5 Custom? Lundgren Model M? Bareknuckle NailBomb?

Custom, X2n, Dimebucker, etc. I just installed a new X2N in my RR and it sounds awesome

DiMarzio X2N is remarkably tight for a high output passive pup - almost EMG tight, although not quite. Very good for downtuned playing IMO.

Ok, from DiMarzio, it's a toss between the D-Sonic and the X2N. The D-Sonic has more lows, same mids, and a touch less highs than the X2N, but it's seemingly geared toward down-tuned players needing clarity. Petrucci uses the D-Sonic in his EB/MM signature guitars, I like the clarity he gets, and the tightness.

From Seymour Duncan, it's between the SH-5 Custom, the SH-11 Custom Custom, and the LW-HMET Live Wire Metal. The JB isn't hot enough for me, and the Distortion isn't either, as well as being very muffled (the Distortion) sounding.

DiMarzio D-Sonic/X2N vs. Seymour Duncan SH-5/SH-11/LW-HMET.

                Picks?

I just put an X2N in my RR Pro and it kills, but it's neck-thru with Floyd and different woods so who knows what it would sound like for you

Hey guys, I've got the same model as 006 and I'm thinking pretty much the same thing. I was seriously considering the X2N, mostly because I see it hailed as god around these forums, but do any of you have soundclips of the X2N in action? that'd be sweet.

Find an old X2N that has mellowed a bit with age.Awesome tone.
