EMG once made a passive 81??

That's only from what I've read here
      http://www.harmony-central.com/Guita...ssional-1.html
and on the French site I saw.

Just to let you know; There's a lot of bullshit floating around on HC. You really need to filter the info you get from there, because a lot of people don't have a clue and will just make a lot of stuff up as they go along.

EMG never made a pickup with exposed rails. The "passive version of the 81" is called the EMG-HZ H4, and it has only been on the market for a few years now. It also doesn't have any exposed poles whatsoever. Your pickup was definitely not made by EMG. For reference, you can have a look at EMG's site: http://www.emginc.com/

It's definitely not a B. Lawrence pickup, because the rails are way too wide for that.

The pickup looks more like a DiMarzio X2N, but those have black rails (http://www.dimarzio.com). I don't think Jackson ever used DiMarzio pickups in the imports either.

I have no idea what this really is, but chances are that it's a mass produced pickup by Jackson that isn't all that great. However, pickups can be easilly replaced, so I don't think it would be much of a problem if it turns out to be a bad pickup.

Thanks for that info Sunbane. I'll let you know what it's like in a couple of days hopefully.(EMG 81 or 85 may end up going in)

Kostafusion, I saw a black one and a white one on that site you posted that are identical to the one I'm getting.

The second one is a Fusion SS apparently and that's indentical to the one I'm getting.

I would think maybe a late 91.Maybe first use of the JT-580.Odd that it does not have the offset dots and binding. I tend to think early production because of that.I think newsc hit the nail on the head.

          [/ QUOTE ]

offset dots, standard dots & sharkfins were all available at the same time on different Fusion models. AFAIK binding was only available on the top of the line Fusion Pro.

This is a Fusion SS. The bladed pickup is standard and is a Jackson. As per the 92 catalogue

Do you have any scans of the '92 catalogue?

They made some cheap passive pickups called EMG select,
but they had the same appearance as a regular EMG
              except for the logo.

Yes, I have that same pickup on my 90's dinky reverse. Mine has black rails and a jackson logo but I would bet that its the same pickup. Does the catalogue mention what model the pickup is?

Those aren't anywhere close to the 81 though. I have a set...they are low output and very dark sounding. Made in Korea.
