• deal or not?

whilst being inconvenienced by the ability to qc two cases for my jackson warrior, the dk2ff i had originally ordered was taken out of hiding and sold. the shop has now offered to utilise my credit note to order another dk2ff WITH case for a total cost of 349 sterling. a new 2005 dxmg would cost me the same on its own. is it worth trying to haggle them to get me a dxmg with case for the same price or go for the original offer? i've got a 175 sterling credit note itching to be spent. because the case for the warrior was a special order, i can't get a refund. as much as i'm miffed, i didn't take the dk2ff when i had the opportunity so i accept that bit is my fault. both guitars have different pickup configurations, and i still own my wrmg. which guitar - dk2ff or dxmg - would you go for? btw - i'm not waiting for the 2006 series guitars. i'm not waiting until the arse end of the year (the uk is always at the back of the queue).

Since you already own the WRMG (presumably with the stock HZ pickups), I'd get the DK2FF instead of a DXMG.

+1 on the DK2FF since it has been discontinued.

ok guys, i'll give it a shot. let's hope they actually have some in stock at fender uk now that it's no longer in production.

The FF inlays are gay. Go for the DXMG.

uh oh. mr gay ff inlays is back with a vengeance . in honesty, i was thinking about the dxmg because i used to own one, but swapped it for a boss gt-8 because my wrmg has the same pickups. the dxmg's had more umpf in it's mid-range and a thinner neck, but the warrior seemed to have more sustain (and happens to be the only "shaped" guitar i've owned who's neck didn't drop). i suspect the dxmg would have threatened sales for the other mg series had it also been kitted out with active emg's (not that i'm gonna bother to wait for the 2006 imports to reach this retched country). the dk2ff on the other hand has two single coils, making the ability to retro fit the sustainiac pickup look like a factory fitting rather than a tacky add-on as it would if i tried to fit it with a dummy SC in the dxmg's humbucker bezel - which would look kind of, er... gay?! . i could demand the retailer sell me a dxmg for £349 including a gator case, but these retail for that alone, so a haggle could prove difficult. why create hassle when a good deal, ie: dk2ff with a case has already been offered by the retailer? i'm going to the shop very shortly, so please, battle it out. so far racer, ya losin' 2-1 so far. Re: deal or not?

The way I see it, both guitars have plastic inlays. Generally, I would be opposed to BOTH guitars for that very reason, but the flames are among a very short list of unique inlays so far as Jackson is concerned. Also, I'm of the opinion that the Duncan Designed single coils really aren't that bad.

ok just got the two quotes: dk2ff with case 349, or dxmg also with gator case 375. eta on either order will be established monday. and no, neither will weigh a fucking ton or have mould fit discrepancies either. at the muppet who passed both those jcc917 cases on the same day..

the retailer hasn't bothered to ring me. suffice to say, i think after all this, i want the dxmg because it just looks better. maybe racerx was right about the flame inlay looking gay. i'd be very surprised if the dxmg turns up as the 2006 version (yeah right). how would i be able to tell? the two versions are identical except maybe the trem. does anyone have pics of the two trems - jt580 and "improved LP"?

Nah, but I guess I don't like the idea of buying something based (at least partially) on appearance, knowing that the materials are imitation versions of a natural material. Same thing with photoflame finishes. I'm the kind of person who immediately replaces plastic dot inlays with MOP or abalone, so maybe I'm obsessing just a little! either way, i'd still get a case included. i've never owned a flame inlay guitar, but when trying to play the one that eventually got sold to someone else, i got lost a few times. the dxmg looks nice with it's sharkies and reversed headstock but am wondering if it's worth trying to reduce my food budget because it looks so good! i can modify either guitar when i can afford a sustainiac in a few month's time. i'm getting serious jackson gas now.

Look at the side dots. Then you won't get lost. Hell, two of my Jacksons don't have inlays at all, and that's actually my favorite look.

If you're considering either of the aforementioned guitars, why not just get a DK2S?
