  • DKMG pickup rings

I know the dkmg has an arched top but does it have special curved bottom pickup rings(like a les paul)? Or does it just use regulat flat ones and just kind of bend them for the small arch that it has?

I would guess that the area where the pickups are mounted is flat enough for flat pup rings to fit. Sort of like a "shelf" at the highest point of the arch. My 750XL is built like that.

So, then the 750 uses flat rings? What you described is what I was thinking.

I own a DKMGT and a DKMG. I just checked both of em and it looks like flat rings are on em. There doesn't appear to be much of an arc at that point.

Les Pauls don't have arched rings (at least none of my 4 do). They "bend" as you carefully crank down on the screws. Eventually, they might break in the middle - an LP Custom I bought came with broken rings like this (not the original rings, however).

Yeah. Mine has the same sort of rings that the model series had (the over-dimensioned ones for covered pickups). They are definitely flat.

Well...nearly. The neck pup ring is actually bent a little, but that seems to have occurred after assembly, and it leaves a tiny gap between the guitar surface and the bezel. If I press down on it, the pup ring flattens back down and matches the top.

I know you're huge les paul fan but I'm not sure where you're getting that? They are definitely "cut" to fit the radii of the top of the guitar. Maybe what you've seen is the sloppy fitting rings that will crack over time because the rings weren't cut to fit the radii correctly for THAT particular carved top (the top carves differed over the years).

Maybe it's possible during the "cheap" years that Gibson used less of a quality ring but 9 out of 10, they're radiused on the bottom as well as angled.

Bane is absolutely correct on the 750 as it has a flat "shelf" for the rings. Now on the old archtop soloists, those are indeed carved all the way to the center like a les paul so what they did was just take the standard oversized rings and cut the proper radii into the bottoms to fit. If they didn't, THOSE would have definitely broke as they were SO thin.

Unfortunately I know nothing about the DKMG so I guess I should go now....
