  • JS serie owner - pickup upgrade?

Ok, i'm curious, to those of you who own a JS serie Jackson...

Have you done a PU upgrade? If yes, what did you choose and why?

I know PUs are so personnal but i'm curious... I have a Dimarzio ToneZone waiting for a new guitar here... I wonder how it would sound in my JS30 Kelly.

I upgraded my son's JS-20 with an Kent Armstrong PAF at the bridge, Dimarzio Hot Rails at the mid-position, and a Lace Blue at the neck. With push-pull pots replacing both volume and tone control, I wired his guitar to take advantage of the Dimarzio split coil, and I wired the other push-pull for having the bridge pickup always in the circuit (an old trick that can be found in many pickup sites or books).

The guitar has eleven distinct different sounds, and covers PAF, single coil, and numerous other tones. It gets confusing at times, but is fun to play.

      Hey BenoA,

I went with a Duncan Invader in my JS1. The guitar was pretty bright to me. I tried a Screamin' Demon and a Distortion before the Invader. The Invader was a good match for me.

Your JS Kelly is a bit heaver than the JS1 though.

Hey RacerX, yeah I am shooting for the fewest posts per day average.(j/k)

Good to put a couple of posts in the ole' JC forum.

I guess the maple on that DK2M brought me out.

            (and the Warren Demartini Charvel's)

              Thanks everyone for the ideas.

Your JS doesn't stay in tune? This is what i tought i would have to change first on mine, but the more i play it, the more i'm surprised at how well it stays tuned.

I checked out the tone chart of the invader and it is quite similar with the ToneZone i have: high frequencies are cut and high on bass and mids.

May be i should try my ToneZone first in my JS Kelly...
