  • Trade in passives for an active?

I've been thinking about losing my WRMG and DX10DFS in exchange for a 2006 DKMG in CBS. I love my WRMG, but getting a case for it has been a nightmare. The DKMG will go in just about any standard case. Just about every patch on my GT-8 was created using that WRMG. My concern is the difference in sound through a different body and active pickups. I am also concerned over the neck profile which is a lot thinner on my DX10DFS than my Warrior. The DX needs a setup but I'm not sure I want to spend £90 on a setup and Gator case. The DKMG in CBS is priced at £560 through Sound Control. I imagine I could possibly get £400 for the warrior, and have the £200 for the DX10DFS credited back. Thoughts?

To me this seems like a totally bad idea.

Basically you trade in two guitars for one, with the one being just the same quality as your WRMG.
You also say you love your WRMG, what would you do when the DKMG doesn't have the same mojo?

Get a gigbag for the Warrior - it should fit in any bag that can take a BC Rich Beast, and there are pretty good bags (Rockbag Deluxe) out there. Trading in gear you love dearly is only going to hurt you on the long run... get the case and the setup for the DK2FS, you can keep the case if you should want to sell the DK2 and keep it for another strat-shaped guitar.

Ok, point taken. I guess I'll trade the DX10DFS back and hope I get the full value back AND somehow miraculously save up another £400... I have the 2005 WRMG (with the redundant Turbocharger) and hope it doesn't get killed when I transport it. Well, the part-chop was an idea anyway...

You wont get full value and dont expect it.Going rate on a used guitar is half what of you paid new.

I've done this before with Sound Control. I've been told it's because I look after my equipment. I once bought a DXMG from them, kept it for 6 weeks whilst waiting for my WRMG and got the full value back when trading it for a Boss GT-8 and some peripherals. The used DX10DFS was bought for £200 from SC. No biggie if I can't do it. I am a bit peeved though. You'd think an at least half decent shop would set up a guitar properly before re-selling it.

I hope you play your guitars more than you whine about them!

I wouldnt reccomend sending the warrior anywhere unless its in a hard case.

are you moving to another country?

It depends cases for dinkys and soloists are common, while rr's kv's, explorers and the rest are difficult to find cases for...

See if your store can order one of these gigbags for a BC Rich Beast. It's not as bulky as the case and it offers decent protection for every-day use (not recommended for shipping with UPS or something, though ). Prices on Warrior cases are insane.
If you absolutely have to transport it and have no gigbag or case, wrap it in a big blanket...

I'm not moving country, just to another part of Nottingham. I'm actually stuck here until May 2007 now. But that gives me plenty of time to find another Warrior case. The JCC917 weighs a frikkin ton so I might even entertain the idea of a custom made case (when you consider it would cost near enough the same as a JCC917 anyway - £200!). Whether it would be lighter or made of the same comfortable mould material I don't know. It would however mean losing the guitar for 2-3 weeks so they can build the case to the right dimensions. A gigbag is not worth the money unless the weather is good and I don't have to squeeze through herds of chavs and other vindictive or pig ignorant scum.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't post til after your post. Yep, I did think of wrapping it in a blanket, but I know my father will want to cram as much stuff in the car as possible. And Sod's Law dictates...

Your father will most likely understand that breaking a guitar worth several hundred £ is not a good tradeoff for more space in the car.
If you only want to go for a case, I'd rather let it sit somewhere for a few weeks than running the risk of ruining it some way or other. Warrior cases are huge, I've got one with my Warrior and whenever I have to transport it I just wish I had a gigbag. I've gone back to using my DK2 a lot more, because unlike the Warrior, it fits in every goddamn trunk in every goddamn car, even with a case. Enter stage left: gigbag.

the shop will no longer do good business with me such as crediting me back for the dx10dfs towards the dkmg. fuck it, i'm gonna save up for it and sell the dx privately. the warrior is staying.

Sounds to me you change your mind quite a bit and they are getting tired of dealing with you. From their point of view you understand.

no, they just changed their policy - anything you take in, you only get a third (or less) of the value for it. i think they're just pissed off that they're still stuck with that shitty bc rich that i returned because it's fucked, just like the other shoddy replacements. i'm not shopping there anymore. i'll just save up, then go to another area and get what i want.
