  • Gonna mod my SLSMG, need tuners/bridge info..

Yello all. Bought myself an SLSMG, and im already swapping the pups. However, i've read that some dont liek the hardware, so im looking for drop in replacements for the bridge and the tuners. Im going to have a nut ordered from Graphtech "trm-nut" and have a tech slot it and put it on for a perfect fit.

So, does anyone know any locking tuners that are a direct fit in? As well, a quality bridge to replace the cheaper JAckson unit?!?

    Thanks for any help....

Nothing wrong with the Jackson unit.

IIRC it's the same one that they put on the USA string-throughs. Like straycat said, they're good units.

Ok, well, thats good to hear that the bridge is decent, but I still woudlnt mind to go to locking tuners. That with the graphtech nut heave helped my previous guitars...

        Any recommends or direct replacements?

I just bought a set of Planet Waves locking tuners for my KVX10. I'll let you know if they just drop in after I give it a shot...tomorrow. I'm off to bed now.

Supposedly they do just plop right in with no modding or drilling, which is why I bought them in the first place.

Most of the upper end import Jacksons will have the same hardware as the USA guitars so thats a good thing.
The old JT-6 trems were the same on the model series Charvels as was on the USA Jacksons.Pickups too the J series pickups kick ass.
Just find the pickups and tuners YOU LIKE and you should be fine

I've heard good news about these, especially the auto-trim ones (unless they are all auto-trim).

Yep, they're all auto-trim. I haven't had a chance to install them yet (ECW PPV last night and I'm busy with the kids and work today). I ordered a set of chrome pup rings from Stew Mac and once they come in, I'm going to take her all apart and do all the mods at once. I'll post pics when she's done.

The Planet Waves tuners went in perfectly with no modding at all. They look pretty cool too. I'll string her up later after work and try them out.

Now I have a spare set of jackson Gotohs for my project I've started. Me very happy now.

Yea +1 I went with the Planet Waves Locking tuners on my Model 1 Charvel. They are the only locking tuner on the market to go one for one on the Jackson Gotoh's. All the others, like Sperzel (my favorite) and Schaller use the locator "pin", thus leaving the screw hole behind, so you can look at it and pull your hair out I don't believe Gotoh makes a locking tuner with the same screw hole mounting as the non-locking ones.

The nut on that guitar is already graphite. If you want to upgrade that, Get a nut from Earvana. I have them on most all my guitars. Including Floyds. My necks play in intonation all over the neck. And no cutting like the Buzz Defeated tuning system or special digital tuners to compensate. Best upgrade I ever made to my sound since I started using Jackson back in the 80's.

Nice pyschles! You need to post that over on mg.org when it comes in. Just go for the schaller locking tuners, I used to be hardcore into SLSMGs, and thats what I used on mine.

I would love to pick up another one, miss my old ones quite a bit.
