the lack of binding on KE/RR-3 really puts me off aswell. They do it for the MG series and Dk2 so why not! would make them so much better!
I know im preaching to the choir here, im sure you all agree!
If you wake up in the morning, it's because Jack Bauer spared your life.
knowing my luck, i'll buy the kelly in the how-can-you-NOT-have-that-finish Skulls scheme, and next year for 2007 the KE3's will get bound necks from the factory.
I put a DK-1 neck on a KE3 body. I didn't elongate the holes, and it was a bitch getting it clamped down all the way - so much so that I never want to take it off. It's all blacked out, picture a black KE1 but with an oiled neck.
I hate not having the binding on my Kelly Star, but that neck has such a great feel I might just stick with it.
And Fusion necks will work. My first Kelly was a ebay hack job PS6T with a Jackson Fusion Professional neck. It was intonated perfectly. The most important thing with a neck swap is 22 -> 22 and 24 -> 24. Pretty much bet that you'll need to a setup and intonation afterwards no matter what swap you do.
ok, so do the KE3's use a neck plate like a Strat, or individual ferrule-type things? basically, i'd just like to know what parts (in addition to the neck) i'm going to have to chase down in the near future to make the swap.
cuz sure as hell i don't wanna spend an eternity learning how to do binding on my own...
I've seen both types of neck connectors - plates are a lot more common. Someone else might know the rythme or reason behind the years they used the ferrule-type thins. I'm pretty sure they were used on Kelly XL's, and those have a bound neck.
