So, I picked up a Dinky HX cheap off ebay with a little fender battery powered amp (mini-twin), case, book, cord. Its got a couple of chips but its all right. It says professional on the headstock and the serial is 9415788. I cant find this model in any of the catalog scans on the web. I wonder if anyone knows what year this thing is, (Ron comes to mind ) and if its possible that theres a wiring diagram for this thing anywhere. Its 2 humbuckers , a 3-way switch, volume, tone. Sounds simple but the tone is a push pull coil splitter and the wiring is very weird. The red wire has come off from the bridge humbucker and the output is practically nothing. I also need one ferrule for the top of the string through body. I can get a set of 6 from stew mac but the shipping is twice the price of the item. Maybe someone has a junker string through body laying around they could pry one out of. Or a lead to a place that sells them that wont bleed me dry on shipping. Thanks.

I've got a black Dinky HX (I also had a red one I sold here to Space Ace). According to Kevin Easton, only about 100 were made in '94. The red one I had also was missing the high E string eyelet; pain in the ass to find those things, too! Easton actually sent me a free one that he had lying around. Not sure about the wiring of the push/pull tone pot, but the ouput of those cheap pups were pretty weak overall anyway. I just ripped the push/pull out and put in a regular tone control, 85/60 EMGs in the black one and a Tone Zone/J50N in the red one.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Cool, thanks for the info. Only 100 made? Im rich!!!! :ROTF: Forget pre pro Charvels, this is where the real bucks will be. That would be the alternative plan, just ripping it all out and replacing it all. Maybe I will just buy the ferrules from stew mac. Then I'll have 5 extras to maybe help someone else out along the way. Well, Im off to search the net for wiring diagrams. Or I could just play, "Touch the wire to something til it works".

LOL I should have held onto the red one. Carl had it repainted Tie-Dye... there goes the collector value on that one!
The body is also poplar. I bought the black one brand new mail order from Venneman's Music Emporium around '94 or '95. It's hanging on a stand in my living room, it's now my D-tuned guitar, still going strong after all these years. I'm not too into the thin neck nowadays, but it's still a very good player.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Cool, we think alike. I actually used the PRS McCarty diagram from that place. It was very similar to my set up. The thing that was messing up my head is that the splitter was set up to use a different coil on each pickup. Once I figured that out I was able to figure it out pretty fast. And yes, these pickups pretty much suck. Another thing I noticed is that the tuners are really nice gotoh tuners with no jackson logo but the gotoh logo engraved on the covers. They have the smaller rounder buttons too. They are nice and smooth working. The input jack and the pots are nice and quiet too. No need to replace them at the moment. I just gotta order that ferrule and get rid of the white strat knobs that are on it. I think I have some black speed knobs laying around. That little fender mini twin amp is cool too. Fits right in the case. 1 watt of power! Woohoo!!

Yeah, as soon as I saw Dinky HX in the title, I knew Joe would be all over this, so I deferred to him!
