You have some good points Tom, but Newc's original point (which he clarified later in the thread) is that JCMI says "you can't build a decent neck-through guitar for under $1,000", yet you can buy a neck-through Jackson Stars guitar in Japan for $600-$700 new. That doesn't fit the company line JCMI is using.
I think it's simple - they can get American customers to pay more because they have more disposable income - so that's exactly what they do. Why should they make sub-$1000 neckthrough imports available to us when they seem to be selling them for $1350 at a brisk pace through the big-box online sellers? Americans pay more than everybody else for prescription medications too, just because the pharmaceuticals companies can get it.
