  • Grover Jackson Soloist

Scored a Grover Jackson Soloist on Yahoo! Auction Sunday night. I got home from work yesterday and my wife said,

"There's a package for you. Did you buy another guitar?"
"Yes, but honey, I sold two guitars last week!"

    Anyway, on to the porn:

The serial number is lower than that on my other Grover Jackson Soloist, which I know was made in 1999. So I figure that this guitar is at least 8 years old, which is old enough to have caused the binding to yellow a bit.

The neck pickup is a stock Grover Jackson (seller said it was a J-50).

The bridge pickup is a Duncan Custom
I like this pickup so much I have it on two other guitars
Plus, the bridge is a Schaller Floyd, which I think are excellent trems.

I took an hour or so to adjust the spring tension (the seller had it tuned a whole step down) and to intonate the Schaller, then played it for a little bit. This guitar pretty much plays itself, much like my other Grover Jackson

Those guys over at Chushin Gakki sure got it right

      Thanks Jabez!

I was actually making room for a DK2M, which I've got on order.
This was an impulse buy. Look for another ad in the classifieds soon

Congrats! Looks cool, and awesome that it has a Custom in there already!

Yup. I just replaced the J90C and J100 in my Dinky parts mutt with a Custom and a Hotrails last week.

My Jackson Stars Soloist came with a Custom in the bridge and a '59 in the neck. I wasn't too crazy about the '59 at first, but it's growing on me.

That is sweet. At least 8 years old, eh..? Maybe it's one of the first GJ's to be build after the split with Kyowa-Shokai and Itaru Kanno. Build while they still remembered how to build a Pro Series guitar

Looks like the JT-590 has hardened steel inserts. Does it?

            Congrats bro!

                HH-

Having looked at the photo on your website, it looks as though you are right about the inserts. Will look at the back of the trem the next time I change strings to be sure.

                Naz-

Thanks! Plays better than it looks, too

I let a couple of modded Charvel Model 3A's go. They both went to JCFers, and should arrive at their new homes tomorrow (been tracking the packages from this end as well).

Since it is stamped "Schaller", could it really be considered a JT trem at all?

I noticed that as well... I can´t remember seeing a J/C with a Schaller-stamped Floyd before. Can´t say I´ve looked that hard, though.

Does that have real mother of pearl inlays? Should be ,but can't be sure from the pic; looks like could be toilet seat?

I think a lot of the native japanese J/Cs have had Schallers for quite a while, so this is probably a stock item. It's just that I tend to hang up on Technicalities.

A JT-590 should either have "Jackson" or "Charvel" stamped into it - and most of them didn't have the steel inserts. However, Schaller themselves don't have a model name for their licensed Floyd (as far as I know), so I suppose calling it a JT-590 is close enough.

You're absolutely right, Sunbane. And we can surely agree on, that they're exactly the same trem, apart from the logo. I just tend to look through my Jackson glasses and name everything accordingly, hence the Jackson Tremolo 590

                            Sunbane and Dave L-

Henrik and I had a conversation regarding the trem in the Chat Room earlier today. Supposedly there are Schaller trems with Jackson, Charvel, and Schaller logos on J/C guitars. Notice that I wrote that the trem is a "Schaller"

However, if in fact this trem does have the steel inserts, shouldn't it then be called a Floyd Rose II?

                            Danacus-

I just pulled my Jackson Stars Soloist out of its case to compare the inlays, and I have to say that the inlays on the Grover Jackson are "Pearloid", not real MOP. The luster just isn't the same...

Either way, I plan to play this guitar, not stare at it, so it doesn't make that much of a difference to me.

That's too bad. So the inlay on the Stars Soloist is real MOP? Those Stars seem really nice; too bad you get f'ed on the shipping from Japan.
