I know exaclty why they upgraded the trem system... the damn Jackson model buzzes and sucks. I hate mine. I have a 2005 SL3 in Transparent red with chrome hardware and I hate the Floyd Copy. I have had problems with it since the first day. The guitar plays awesome but when I play clean, open chords you can hear a metalic type ring or buzz and it comes threw the amp. I hate it enough to get rid of the guitar.

Nothing I played I like more then my Sl3. I love the neck and finger board. I think the guitar plays wonderful. I'm considering trading it in for the new model with the Folyd Rose or Going for a Sl2 or Sl1. I kinda like the SL2H as I can drop D and not have to set the whole damn guitar up. Hard tails are nice as there are 3 different ones at Russo's in NJ I really like. I may pick one or all 3 of them up.

If that doesn't happen then I'm gonna swap out the Jackson Trem for a Orignal Floyd. According to Floyd, it's a direct replacement. Comes with everything Including a new lock at the head stock.

mantis, is that buzzing you're complaining about a product of the trem springs vibrating? if so, that can be addressed by placing something in the trem cavity to mute the springs. Some folks will thread a pipe cleaner through the springs, others will place a piece of foam in there. Either way will not hinder the function of the trem but will stop that resonant vibration.

I'd agree. That ringing metallic sound is most likely the strings not the actual bridge. I get that sound a little too but I left it alone as I kinda like how it sounds for some things.

If you can afford a USA-made SL1, I'd say get it instead of the SL3, unless you'd rather have the rosewood fretboard.
Or if you can find an SL1 for the same price as an SL3, get the SL1.

imho i wouldn't bother with the sl3. apart from being a neckthru, it has none of the trimmings you get from a usa select, yet it's retail price is too close for comfort to the sl1. patience will pay off if you save up that bit extra for the guitar that's gonna last longer than a christmas cracker (one big bang and the novelty soon wears off).

Thanks for the advise but I already did that. I used foam under the springs and that didn't help the problem. I called Sam Ash where I got it and they have a guitar tech onsite. They are going to go over the guitar and find the problem and set it up since it has not been setup in a year.

Speaking of the USA models, I played the hell out of them today again at Russo's Music. They have this killer hardtail SL2H in dark Red with tan trim and gold hardware. This guitar is very sweet. I really like the way the neck feels. The ebony fretboard is smooth and very fast. The neck shape is slighty different then my SL3. I think it's flatter on the back. I know this that it fits in my hand very well and I can play it with ease. I believe this is the next Jackson for me.
I played the SL1 and it was nice. The tone was better on the neck position pickup. I noticed a fuller clearer tone. I don't know if it's the wood or the pickup that sounds better then my Hot rails on my SL3. Not taking anything away from my Sl3 as I love it to death but the USA models do sound better ,, play better, feel better and all around are a better guitar. Playing them right after each other will tell you the difference right away. There is a reason why you have to pay more for them. They are the cream of the Jackson line and rightfully so.

Funny how I really don't care for other guitars. I 'm a Jackson man and for some reason I find myself always wanting to play my guitar after playing others. I really wanted to pick up a Gibson Les Paul Deluxe but after playing a few different ones, I like my Jackson better.

+1 on all counts there. I tried foam pads, spraying the springs with WD40. Can't remember if the springs were swapped, but couldn't get rid of the fret buzzing and trem squeeking. In the end, the retailer agreed both trem and neck were FooBARred, and I got a completely different guitar as a replacement.

I played a new model Sl3 in a shop last week which the shop keeper said was his favourite jackson. He said it played better than the USA models they had in stock and I have to agree. The blue transparant finish was amazing and the overall build quality was very good.

I beleive it's a matter of preference. I own a Sl3 and I like the Sl1 and Sl2 better. If I found one I liked , I would have got that Instead of my Sl3. I'm actually going to buy a Sl2H. I'd like to find one in White.
