Noob here with a stupid problem.

I am looking to get a name brand guitar for the first time. I hadn't played in about 12 years, what I have are turds. I was originally influenced by 80's butt rock and Jackson, Charvel, and ESP was the poop back then.
I had played the LTD KH202, and it stunk on ice, then I played a DKMGT, the neck was so much better, but I want some kind of Floyd Rose set up like the DKMG. I tried to find one locally to play, but nobody has one.
I did try the DK2M, the neck seemed to be a little thicker to me, but it was still way better than the LTD.
What I wanted to know is if there is really little difference in quality between the DKMG and the DK2M. I really don't know the difference between the EMG and the Seymore Duncan. Can someone give me advice?

You can expect the same great quality between both the DK2M and DKMG... both made in Japan at the same factory. The DKMG is an archtop body, where the DK2M isnt. The necks on both should be VERY similar thickness and feel wise. I personally like EMG's over the Duncans, but theyre both great pickups and have their own advantages and disadvantages. The EMG's are active which means they need a 9v battery, they have a bit more bite and scooped sound to them.

Either way, you cant go wrong with either guitar. I prefer maple fretboards, but I also prefer EMG's... I own a DK2M and a DKMG. If I REALLY had to choose one or the other, looks wise Id have to go with the DK2M, but playability wise Id go with the DKMG (but the difference is marginal at best, but the arch top is definetly comfortable!).

id just get one or the other LOL i have a DX10 Dinky which is a lower line model, but it compares favorably to my RR3, which is a pro series model. i like the neck on the RR3 better, but thats because its a little thicker.

and i agree about the KH202...im sure there are some decent ones out there, but the one i played was a piece of ass. felt cheap, looked cheap, and just had an inferior feel to it. my DX10 pisses all over that model, and is slightly cheaper as well! LOL

Thanks for the info, the more I read here the less interested I am about ESP. I am looking forward to pulling out a guitar I'm not imbarrased of.

I would be more worried about playing badly than pulling out a POS guitar.The people I jam with know what ever I pull out it will sound great,it may look like shit on a stick but it will be the one everyone wants to play.

yea...get a guitar that YOU like. hell, i pull out my EBMM Sub 1 and some cringe, like its a POS. then i play and theyre like "wow!"

or my Mexi strat LOL one pickup, two empty pickup holes, one knob... just get a guitar youre happy with, whether it be ESP or Jackson. personally, id go Jackson because even at the lower prices (X series) the jacksons seem to kick ass...whereas the LTD models that low seem to be kinda cheap feeling. im sure its not the case for all of them, just like with any guitar...its just been the ones ive played.

I just did a fill in track for a friend today at his studio he needed a clean single coil tone so I took my 69 Tiesco 110 and the engineer thought I was jacking with him.The guitar is a $30.00 POS but it has great tone.
The fact that I was playing thru a 65 Fender blackface super had nothing to do with it LOL.
