  • Ordering my Jackson Star

So I am waiting to hear back if they can do the 11/16th nut instead of the 5/8. It will not be a deal breaker if they do not or can not. I am pretty excited about it.

Besides the nut size and the "stars" on the headstock, is there anything else I should be aware of, differences between these and say the Pro's or other MIJ's that we get in the US?

After that I am thinking about picking up a Edwards E-AL-120 SAW-TOOTH, the black with white pin stripe. I know it's a knock off, but it looks pretty sweet (even if it doesn't have MOP anything)

I know there's a lot of Jackson guitar tribute sites, and charvel tribute sites, but is there any sites out there that have picks of Jackson stars?

    OH! One more question-

The semi-custom order list has changed from what was posted in the forums a while back. Anyone know if you can order a guitar with different PUP configurations? Mostly I want to order a Soloist or something with a single humbucker, I don't use neck pick ups so it's a waste to have them.

    thanks

    -Jerry

www.jacksonguitar.org has a bunch of Jackson Stars in its gallery.

As for a single pickup guitar, Jackson Stars will build you pretty much any guitar that you want.

I ordered my soloist with a finish that wasn't offered on the order form (natural), and with an electronic setup which isn't listed on the order form either (1 vol, 5-way switch).

The trans-green finish on my 24fret RR wasn't listed either... and I believe they didn't even charge me extra for it.

Does anyone know if there are significant changes on the new semi-custom order forms? Maybe you, Atsushi?

I already have completed the plans for my next Jackson Stars order... it's gonna be a 2-hum string-thru KV crossed with a RR24/Bond Rhoads. Meaning mahogany body, red bevels and logo, normal sharkfins.

I wonder if this makes it a full custom since the KVJ1 isn't available with string-thru bridge.

Wow, I just had a look at www.jacksonguitar.org and about danced on the table after seeing the string-thru KVs.
Now I'm really excited... still gotta know if it'll be a full-blown custom or possible as a semi-custom order. The price will determine if I can get it this year or next...

BTW, I have never noticed that my Rhoads has a different nut size... does it?
If it does, well I guess both sizes work for me.

I want to say thanks to Shadowcat and Quantumrider, both for direct answers to my questions in other threads and for posting about their experiences with their Jackson Stars orders in the past. They're what led me to make an order myself. Cheers guys. If you're ever over in my part of the world, I'll happily buy you a beer. Well, as long as it's Guinness.

I think I'll add to the chorus of "they'll do anything you ask": My order went to the factory on Monday: a 7-string Kelly. They didn't bat an eyelid at the 7-string, even though there's no production model.

They're calling my guitar a custom, even though it's due in June and the base pricing came from the limited run KE7-J2B you'll find on ikebe-gakki.com. Based on that, I upspecced it to a J1 (+ a little bit): ebony board, reverse MoP inlays, MoP logo, trans. black sunburst on quilt maple and matching headstock. No OFR, as they're quite expensive and I don't have much use for them. I ordered through ishibashi, incidentally.

Nothing I asked for was any difficulty for them: they'd just check directly with the factory and get back to you. Great experience so far. Bring on June.

I'd be interested too to know if that's the case!

I treated the semi-custom form as a guide that gave an idea as to what was possible. I think asking for anything you want is probably the best bet, as I'm sure they'll tell you want individual bit can't be done and they break down your quote so you can tell what's prohibatively expensive.

Sounds cool!! Why not make it a 7-string? I'll PM you my quote and you can work out what it would cost to upspec a KV7-J2. It has no Floyd Rose to begin with...

I have a USA KV2 and it's a great guitar. I wonder do Jackson Stars have the whole speed neck / SL neck thing? And do they use the not-so-jumbo fretwire on their KVs? I prefer the medium jumbo fretwire on the KV2 to the (seriously) jumbo fretwire on my slatqh, but you may wish to check what you're getting.

I doubt it. The old semi-custom allowed you to spec a string-thru bridge. I guess it'd drop the price for you, as the OFR is circa 40k Yen as a semi-custom option.

This Jackson Stars thing could be seriously addictive, if this build works out well. I've always wanted a Death Angel, and there's no way I can justify USA CS prices.... better start being nice to my S.O.

Good luck with guitars everyone. Let us know how you're all getting on!

That is a sweet soloist. I shouldn't have asked about Jackson Stars, I can see every dollar I make over the next uhm.. lifetime.. going towards more stuff from there. I also want a Kelly Star, since I couldn't get one in the states in time.

ken, thank you very much for the pm!
I'm happy we could help you, and even more happy it worked out for you so far!

Well, I have tried out several 7-strings in the past, including a COW DK7 which was accidentally ordered for me instead of a DK6. Almost went out the door with that one because it did play and sound really sweet.

But in the end I think I'm not a 7-string guy.
I do have small hands and also play different tunings in my two bands (B standard and Eb standard). I already got three 6-string Jacksons dedicated for each band... it is actually a great reason to buy more guitars, instead of using 7-strings for both bands.
Like, the Jackson Stars Rhoads I have tuned to Eb for the one band now, so I need a Jackson Stars KV for the other band!

And, last reason... I have the slight fear that after finally adapting to a 7-string I actually might like it better!
And then all my lovely six-strings would collect dust. Don't want that to happen...

In this case I'm really interested to know about the price difference between such a custom and a production model/semi-custom order.

Did you get a price quote for your enquiry? And would you mind to share it with us (or with me via PM)?

I have a DK7T (I think that was the model) and I got rid of it. It sounded alright (it was duncan designed which would have had to go had I kept it) but it just never felt good to me. I ended up selling it to a friend of mine who plays jazz and does music for video games and he never puts it down so. I may try that road again some day but I dunno.

Btw, you are the person I am going to be blaiming when I spend all my money on JS's, so be expecting hate mail from my girlfriend and family

Maybe you could ask for a semi-custom KV7-J2B with a six string neck!

                      :ROTF: I know that feeling!

However, I'll long since given up on worrying about it. To be honest, my cheapest guitar gets more play than any other I own:

It's cheap enough that I don't have to worry about it. And it really is a nice guitar!

                        Very nice!
I bought a Vendetta 3.0 last October... was a total impulse buy, price was marked down because of some bucklerash at the back.
I was there only to order some tubes... but then this guitar caught my look... it played and sounded so much better than all the BC Riches and LTDs in that shop, and at a fraction of their price. I just couldn't let it stay there.

It doesn't get much play time though, I just pull it out when I need to do something in E standard. The biggest gripe for me has turned out to be the fret size, I feel more comfortable with jumbos.

Still it was quite unbelievable for me to score a nice new neck-thru guitar for such a low price. And it holds the candle as the only non-Jackson in my electric collection.

Jerry, bring on the hate-mail! And be sure to include pics of your new axes with each of them.

Hehe will do! I think poor Mai Maeno is tired of hearing about how excited I am about this. I get to put in my order Tuesday. I'm already planning my next one

                            It's ordered

Snow White with black hardware (I'll get the custom pick guard from Dave when the guitar comes in and change the truss rod cover)
Ebony Finger board (Instead of the striped ebony)
Shark Fin Inlays (Reverse / Made of Mother of Pearl)
Jackson Stars Logo (Made of Mother of Pearl)
                            Width at Nut (43mm) 1-11/16
                            Hard Shell Case

this guitar will serve two different ways (other then just playing it) for one I’ll see just how good the Jackson Stars are (and I’m sure they are awesome) and now I have an idea of how the pricing is I know just how much wiggle room I have on my budget.

When it gets here, I’ll take a family picture with the LTD, the RR3R, the Roswell, and the new member J

Now off to go trying to learn Don’t Pay The Ferryman which is kind of a dark song considering it was done by the guy who did Lady in Red… must….make….death…metal…version…..

Yes I know, step away from the crack pipe
