I went to a Guitar Center and another local shop today at lunch and noticed this same "smooth" syndrome on lots of newer midrange guitars (Schecters, BC Rich, etc) with "ebony" boards.

There was the Camo COW it felt the same as my silverburst.

If they are just polished up its weird cuz they are still unlike the Ebony boards I am used to on USA selects and Customs.

That finish looks just great with the plain ebony board and reverse headstock, but the necks on those are painted (on the back) right? I guess that's the mans prefence!

That is a stunning guitar mate!

          Is that a standard colour?

my bass player owns a exotic wood destributor..

He explained to me that Ebony is a naturally oily wood.. and it can be buffed and polished to a glass like finish.. making it very slick...and plastic looking..
He looked at my SLSMG and told me that is what they did to it
