  • Rhoads LTD score (Grover Jackson)

Just scored this. It is an LTD that was made for the Japanese market. Not sure if it was made in USA and relogoed in Japan or if it was actually MIJ.

BTW, for me (i have small hands) it is virtually unplayable past position 14 because of the neck heel.

Wow, that is a very nice score. I do not think I have ever seen one like that before. Congrats.

Was there an actual LTD run in Japan or what this a custom order or something?
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

I believe there was an LTD run in Japan and that this model was called the RRV-250...

There is another URL somewhere with an actual catalog scan, but I can't find it.

                      quick review:

the guitar is very high quality and plays great except beyond the 14th position. look at the back pic. there really is no neck heel. The neck goes straight into a thick triangle shaped body. imagine a les paul with the heel as thick as the body and no cutaway.

I'm totally guessing, but back when the US were doing their LTD run, rather than the japanese subsidiary ramping up a parallel run from scratch, I suspect it would have been much cheaper/easier for them to have the US ship over the pre made body blanks in already ordered custom cases. Again, just guessing.

The serial number is stamped on the end of the fretboard and looks like RR-A-xxx

                          Japan!
                          yahoo japan specifically.

I had to pull some serious "i know a guy who knows a guy" connections. basically my dad's best friend's brother in law who lives in japan. without knowing me from Adam and solely based on his brother in law's assurances, he was willing to throw in the bid for me, pay for, and receive the guitar.
