  • Need some help with Dinky DK2/M decision

Hey guys, I signed up a while back but I believe this is my first post here, this is an awesome forum

Well, I have my eye on an import dinky. I love the way these guitars feel, but every time I mention the words "import dinky" to another guitarist, they don't recommend them. I always wonder why, and most of the time I receive the answer "the trem." Now, if I did get a DK2 or DK2M, it would be my first guitar with a trem, I haven't used anything but standard bridges. So, if any of you with experience with these import dinkies can tell me a bit about it, that'd be awesome.

While I don't own a Dinky I do own an RR3 and once setup properly the trem is very stable. Now I'm not the one to ask about it staying in tune during divebombs and whatnot since I hardly use the damn thing. :P But from just straight playing with heavy palm muting I only have to tune about once a week. So I'd say the trems are very good.

Ahh. Pretty sweet. I might abuse the trem a bit at first but that sounds like a good deal.

If I like the guitar well enough, how hard would it be to put in an OFR? Would any routing need to be done?

I don't believe you'd need to route the body to fit in an OFR, but I'm not 100%, better wait for someone else who's a little more knowledgeable than me on that subject.

As a dk2m owner, my licenced floyd rose is very stable. Not sure why the others knock'd the trem, it works fine for me.

I currently own four Jacksons with the JT580LP licensed trem, and others in the past, and all have been as stable as OFRs and Schallers on other guitars. Two of those with licensed trems are USA models, as Jackson briefly used the JT580LP on USAs in 1996-97.

Is that the same trem used on the DK2M model?

Yes the JT580LP is what comes standard on the DK2M.

yes, it is direct drop in. the Jt-580lp is a very good trem, but the arm isn't the best, but you can swap it out for a better one.

Actually the trems were made of upgraded matierial for 2006 as well. I never had a problem with mine.

Import Dinkys are great guitars very high quality. To disspell the myth your freinds say I have a 93 fusion H-H with the JT 580 lp trem and it is still to this day rock solid and stays in tune perfectly.I have abused this guitar for a long time and it still plays like a dream.May not look too good but is a solid player.
                      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I received my DK2 a couple of weeks ago and while that's probably not a long period for an evaluation, I think the stock Jackson licensed FR is fine. It beats the hell out of the old wonderbar on my Washburn. I think you get used to the bridge after awhile and where to rest your palm. It was harder for me to get used to moving from a H/H configuration to the H/S/S configuration.

I bet a lot of people making those comments have not actually tried the newer DK2 models.

06 models have hardened steel baseplates, I didnt think the otehr ones were that bad, but the only thing you might want to change is the arm swap it for an OFR one to make it less loose, allthough if you decide you dont like floyds just stick a block in there and easy acts likea hardtail....

And the OFR will drop in as will the Gotoh FR and also the schaller one fits too I think???

And the DK2/M choice is weather you want H-S-S with rosewood or HH and a maple board....

I've played quite a few DK2Ms in stores (I'm waiting for my local shop to get their yellow bengals in) and give the trem a good workout, i.e. Cheap and Nasty by Whitesnake w/Vai. I've had no problem with it, stays in tune and feels great. Maybe these people knocking import Dinky trems are thinking of the JT500 (like on the DXMG)? I do not care for that one.
