  • Question About Slsmg

Alright,I just got my new jackson SLSMG back home, everything is fine but a little bit strange, see, here is the specifiction on Jackon official,http://www.jacksonguitars.com/produc...tno=2910104503. It shows that SLSMG goes with the EMG 81 on bridge and EMG 85 on neck. However, the fact doesn't seems like that, even on the officail,we can see EMG-HZ on the both of neck and bridge with SLSMG,of course my guitar does so.Did jackson stuffs made a mistake ??
    thanks for the answers

If it had EMG-HZ pickups, then it is not a new guitar. The pickups were changed to 81/85 in 2006. If you bought this guitar as being "new", then you were ripped off by the seller.

Yeah, the old SLSMGs have the EMG HZ-3 pickups. Another difference between the new SLSMGs and the old SLSMGs is the existence of a battery compartment in the back.

You can pick up one of those old SLSMGs all day long on EBAY for about $500-$600, which I did. I then bought an EMG 81 for the bridge and and EMG 60 for the neck for a total of about $200, and sold the HZ-3s on EBAY for $127.

In fact, here is my complete SLSMG setup:

        2004 "new-in-box" SLSMG bought off EBAY for $550 + ~$40 shipping.
        EMG 81 (B) for $100
        EMG 60 (N) for $100
Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys 9-46 for $4
        Earvana Compensated Nut for $35
Planet Waves Auto-trim Locking Tuners for $65

Total invested: $894. Total sold: $127. Net value: $767.

So, basically, I have a neck-thru 100% mahogany 24-fret super strat with an ebony fretboard, locking tuners, great pickups, a compensated nut and no unnecessary body wood removal for a battery compartment for $767. You can't beat that with a stick.

He was saying the new ones have a seprate battery slot in the electronics cavity yours does not.No problem there is plenty of room to put the battery in yours if you change to active EMGs.Wrap the battery in a piece of the foam that comes with the EMGs.
              Really? well screw Mark Twain.

No,I said "$1100(CAD)" means after taxs. I got it at Long & McQuade.I saw couple of them which are used just sale for around $800.I thought that is a regular price, isn't it?

The best deal for a stratshape neckthru is an ESP in my opinion, I know that this is a jackson/charvel website, but the ESP M and MH series have amazing neckthru's for under 400 bones, and if you get the 400 series of those models, they come with EMG 81/85 standard. The only thing is, their ESP, not Jackson, my ESP MH 250 plays amazing and deffinately compares to my RR24, Though the RR24 has a thinner flatter neck, the ESP's have U shaped necks, but I love fatter necks for some reason, even though Im a shredder.

Those would be in the LTD line... and they're made in Korea, not Japan like the SLSMG. Not that there's really anything wrong with them, though. I had an LTD EC300-P that was pretty decent for the money.
If you can get a real Japanese made ESP for $400, I'd buy them all day long.

Yeah, I certainly didn't machine a battery cavity into my guitar . The battery compartment is actually a negative to have. It requires extra removal of wood from the body of the guitar. As mentioned, all I did was tuck the battery away nicely within the control cavity. There's more than enough room in there...particularly compared to my Strat.

Rather than wrapping my battery in foam, I just wrap it with electrical tape. Personal preference. One method is not better than the other.

The ESPs don't have ebony boards and I have yet to play a LTD (even a deluxe model) that has a fret job as good as my SLSMG

Got my SLSMG (the older one) for $400 off of Craigslist, and the previous owner had swapped the bridge HZ for a X2N. Couldn't be happier. I'm looking into replacing the hardware later on, but that's just extra.
