  • Resale Value of my modded KE3

I'm selling my KE3, and I'd like to know a good asking price for it. It has been upgraded with EMG 81 and 85s [wired for EIGHTEEN VOLTS], Gold Floyd Rose~ , and Moved Strap button placement (nothing was drilled and this mod is totally reversable). The guitar was bought about half a year ago and plays even BETTER than when it was new. It has no scratches or dings anywhere, and is it perfect condition. The guitar will be professionally setup and cleaned before pick up. It includes a free Fender guitar cable and Jackson Deluxe Gig-bag and all of the allen wrenches needed.

What do you think? (state if your price is Canadian or USA dollars please)

Fair warning, this could be considered an ad, so chose your wording carefully As for the value, I would say you will get, at most, 65% of what you paid/put into it.

Ah, it's meant to be for information. That link is just a picture. I put about $750+$200+$150= $1100*0.65= $715... owch, not TOO bad though.

Well, since you have access to the classifieds, but need to put a price on the ad, Id say this is fair. I dont think hes fishing for a best offer thing. My guess is around $300 US. You would probably get more if you put back the original stuff and sold off the mod items seperately from the guitar. Then Id say 300 for the guitar, $100 for the pups, 75 for the gold ofr.............

Yeah, you'll never get back what you paid unless you hold onto it for years and years. I would put $800 or best offer for it, that way people will consider even if they find the price high, and shoot you an offer. Always be sure to counter there offer though and try to get as much as possible

Carbuffs idea of selling the parts and returning it to stock could work too. Or return it to stock, sell it, and keep the parts.

I'm not and I just realized I screwed up here. I wa slooking at the final number. all and all, mods and addons will rarely increase the guitar's value. Carbuffs prices are pretty good.

The only mod I did to my black 2006 KE3 was move the forward strap button, and the shop gave me £220 for it as a part ex towards my DK2M EDS which cost me £409. Not bad considering I only paid £380 for the KE3. Still looking to buy her back seen as it's still in the shop. Even better if I can buy it back for £220. Maybe they didn't notice the mod...

If it's not yours you should really take it out of your sig line

On an Import guitar. This value will never go up with after market parts and mods. And 9 out of 10 times it will sell for about half to 2/3 or what it sold for new. Depending on brand and condition. Also individual market. If a KE3 goes for 579.99 as an example new with a trans finish. It wont go for 800.00 used with mods. it just wont happen. More like 350 US is a good average. But unless someone is looking for that exact guitar with those mods. youwont get more then that but probably closer to 300.

*disclaimer Of course there a few exceptions to this rule. But very few.

The conversion rate is very close to 1:1 lately. Makes it very easy to ballpark values these days, and I'm buying a lot of things online from American eBay sellers because of this.

Back to the topic... if I recall correctly, I sold my black KE3 with EMGs for $350 American. I included the case, thick/wide leather strap, and original pickups.

Wow, that bad huh. I remember the good old days when it was almost 2 to 1 in favor of the us dollar.
