  • DK2M owner opinions please

I'm thinking about maybe snagging a Dk2M in snow white (or maybe a bengal finish) later this year. I've checked a few out as best I can at a local GC but the guitars were fairly banged up and not really in good condition for a decent test drive.

So I was wondering what all y'all think of the guitar, from build quality, pros/cons of the stock trem and the pickups. Have any of you noticed an oddly cut neck pocket on your DK2M? A friend and I noticed on all 3 DK2M's that we saw on Friday that the bass side of the pocket is cut lower than the treble side, resulting in the bass side fingerboard being a little closer to the top of the body than on the treble side. Is that common?

Thanks for the info. The slanted neck pockets I saw were at a GC, though MF is part of the GC "family".

I'm selling mine because I hate it.... bad sustain and the trem never ever stayed in tune. The allen screws in the guitar all over were made from weak materials and are now stripped for all practical purposes. I'm just so glad to be getting rid of it.

I love the maple neck on mine. Very smooth. Didn't even need a setup, unlike every import I've bought with a rosewood neck. Pups give clarity too. There's a dealer here, Matt, who has (or had?) one with EMG's and white bengal finish (orange centre). Get that one if you can.

I've had 2. Crimson Swirl and RGF. Both were nice guitars. The CS had a really thick neck, for some reason. The RGF was very nice, except that the flames were almost exactly the same color as the base color, so you could barely see them. Overall, nice guitars IMO. Beautiful finish, played well, sounded OK, looked cool.

It is a very good guitar, but nowhere near a USA.

It plays, looks and sounds great. Performance however: there is quite a bit of fret buzz even after a good setup, and somewhat high action. Don't know what causes it... uneven frets, bad neckpocket maybe. Issues a new guitar should not have imo.

If you avoid/fix that issue you have a great guitar for the money.

I, for one, love mine - no complaints. The stock action was a touch high for me, so I just lowered the trem a bit and I'm good to go - no fret buzz. I did replace the 3-way switch with a 5-way, and the bridge JB with a Custom. As someone else mentioned, it's not USA quality, but for the price (got mine for $519 new), it's hard to beat.

had the same problem about the action height, i tried everything, nothing worked.

You mean that it buzzes even with the action set quite high?

What did you end up doing to it?

My White DK2Ms action is high too, but it has never been set-up. I hope thats all it is.

                          Mine plays and sounds great!

I didn't like the JB in other guitars, but it sounds good on this one (maybe because it's a bolt on?). I love the Jazz in the neck, too.

The only gripe I had was the trem arm (not the trem itself), but it took me 5 minutes to swap the arm and socket out for those of an OFR, and the guitar was ready to rock

My DK2M has been extremely reliable and plays great. I agree that the JB sounds better in the DK2M than in any other guitar in my experience.

I picked up a used White DK2M last winter and have been totally happy with it. Plays great and sounds great for the money.
