Noobish question

I've had a DK2M a few months now but it's only now I have followed some online guides to the letter and properly installed new strings, fully stretched them, abused the Floyd Rose for a few mins then finally got to perfect pitch with the fine tuners. Before now, any use of the FR would result in the guitar going way out of tune, now though, with fresh strings on it is only going out a little. My question is, to tune up(when it is just a minor amount of pitch needed) is it better to loosen the locking pads and tune up normally or should I just use the fine tuners? Apologies if this is a lame question, but as you can probably tell I am new to Floyd-equipped guitars. Any help much appreciated

Welcome to the board. I'm sure there are people more qualified than me on tremolo bridges, but the basic idea is tune up with the machine heads, then lock down the bolts on the nut. When you do that, the strings will probably go a bit sharp. Adjust using fine tuners provided And voila! There you have it. Assuming that your springs and neck are properly adjusted, you should have a fully functional guitar. Enjoy!

Thanks levantin and thank you for the welcome to the board So my first step(i.e when I pick the guitar up each time or abuse the whammy a lot) when retuning should always be the machine heads? At the moment I literally can't get my bottom 3 strings to go out of tune, but the top 3 are going out just a little bit after a lot of whammy abuse and such. I was thinking for such a small adjustment it'd be easier to use the fine tuners than having to loosen the locking pads at the nut....

Yes, I'm glad to say my springs are all adjusted fine It came with 9's and was set up accordingly so when I put my preferred 10's on I adjusted the springs to get the bridge plate parallel to the body etc. It plays fantastically well I do have a little bit of buzzing on the low frets, it's not really enough to bother me but I may adjust the truss rod a little to try and eliminate it.

I only have one floyded guitar and I hardly ever loose the clamps unless I'm changing strings. So yes, when you're not putting on new strings the fine tuners should have enough travel to round out the tuning if it's off.

Welcome to the forum.

Put the new strings on, tune up to pitch, bend the strings, even pull them up off the board, retune to pitch, repeat the bending/stretching/tuning process until they don't go out of tune. Then you lock down the nut and fine tune accordingly. You really shouldn't need to open the lock nut again until your next string change.

Christian? for the fret buzz, take an alan wrench and adjust the posts in front of the FR on either side, unscrew to go up and screw in to go down
