  • SL3 Soloist...opinions ???

I'm trying to decide which Jackson I should purchase.
The American series is going to be a little out of my price range.

The decision comes down to either a SL3, Dinky 2 or maybe a solid Black SL 1 if I can get the money together.

Anyone have any bad experiences with the SL 3 ??

    Thanks.

    I would look for a used DK1 but I'm partial to bolt-ons.

Yeah, I thought about buying one of the SL3s too, but I need a binding. It is kind of what makes a Jackson a Jackson, you know. I love bolt-ons too. Get a DK1. Neck thrus kind of sound muffled to me, but to each his own. Steve Stevens from Billy Idol tried forever in the 80s to get a neck thru to sound like a bolt on. He never could get that snap that a bolt on has, but everyone's different.

Well I prefer neck thrus by a mile. I have four and none sound muffled. They sound richer to my ears. More sustain, resonance and better feel. I have nothing against bolt ons but neck thrus are a work of art. Thats why they tend to cost more too.

I'm thinking of trading a SL3 for a guy who has one and wants to trade for an Ibanez RG550, which I have. I've never played an SL3 either and was hoping for some opinions.

the only thing they don't have is binding - they play and sound just fine
