  • New DK2M Owner ...

i bought a dk2m a week ago (still waiting for it to ship) and i just want to know what everyone's honest opinions are about it. there was a certain time where the dk2m was all the hype and people would only say good things and tend to overlook all the tiny stuff, little imperfections and such. so what does everyone think of these?

Mine had no flaws in the craftsmanship or anything. Mine played just fine, and looked stellar.

I got one back in September. That one had a split in the wood in the tremolo cavity behind one of the bridge pivot posts. Also, the neck pocket was a little off side-to-side, but I fixed that with a very small shim. However, I found the wood crack AFTER I did the neck shim. I returned the guitar and had them order me a new one.

The new one was pretty darn good - no wood crack and the neck was pretty much dead on in the pocket. About all I had to do was slightly adjust the trem springs, set the pickup heights and then dial in the intonation. That I thought was pretty reasonable for a guitar that shipped all the way from Japan and was not set up over here prior to me taking it home.

As for the tone, it's really my first time playing with Duncans humbuckers (I usually use DiMarzios) and I am liking them OK. The '59 at the neck is actually pretty cool for faster picking on the high strings. The JB is decent at the bridge but it's not a fire-breather in terms of output. But if Warren D. used it, I'll give it a chance.

By the way, what color are you getting, Szostak? I got snow white but I thought about inferno red. And some of the limited-edition bengals were pretty cool though I couldn't justify the extra cost.

The neck PU is a SH-2n Jazz. It does sound good, though. The best neck HB for clean sounds that is made by any company.

I ended up getting the snow white one also, looked the best imo.

Cool - that's a good color. By the way, if you find the black coloring in the trem route is a little off, you can use a black sharpie to make it look, um, "sharper". I used one to make the line between the white top finish and the black look a little more straight.

I got mine back in summer 2006 and it was perfect right out of the box. I haven't played it lately, as I'm trying to give my Soloist Pro some stage time, but it has proven to be money well spent.

I played a shop soiled one and thought it was nice, then a minty fresh one came in locally and it was truly perfect! Def gonna have one of these someday.

I dig my DK2M. I played it at my last gig.

So how does the DK2M play compared to a normal DK2?

I know this has been covered before, but are any of you guys going to drop an OFR in your DK2M?

if it's the exact feel of guitar for me, you bet.

Maybe some day but the stock is OK for now. I'm not a huge whammy abuser but the stocker has held tune pretty darn well.

That said, I wonder if a bridge upgrade might improve tone and sustain.

The OFR just drops right in, doesn't it?

Bought my inferno red DK2M from my somewhat local GC back in December. Awesome right out! Absolutely no problems.

I also am a former DiMarzio player (super-distortion). The bridge SD pu on my dk2m has a much cleaner sound. I play now either through a toneworks Pandora PX4d or straight into my Rocktron Velocity V50C, and either way sounds great.

                              You'll love it...no worries.
