  • Modding my KV Pro...

Though my mind is pretty set, Im just curious what some of you think.

Ive got a black KV Pro. By no means in mint condition, has been played well and has a good amount of dings and whatnot. None the less, I love the guitar, but Im not big on guitars without trems. I love Kahlers though, so Im going to add a Kahler trem in place of the Kahler hardtail.

The way I look at it, Im not selling the guitar, probably ever. If for some reason I ever wanted to put it back to stock, all Id have to do is take off the trem and put the hardtail back on... the rout wouldnt be noticable. Ill be adding an after the nut lock too.

That, and Im not big on the smaller frets either. Once I get good at fret work, Ill be doing SS Jumbo frets.

    Whachya think?

I voted hell no. The Kahler trem would require you to route the guitar. Also, you probably have one of the cool original milled Kahler bridges, the 3310, with steel saddles. The ones Kahler makes today (7330) are cast and are less valuable and only come with brass saddles.

Leave the Kahler hardtail, go with SS jumbo frets.

Keep in mind none of the mods except the nut would be visible... and even the nut is only a couple screw holes... Im only using the two mounting screws closest to the nut, so if I ever decided to go back to stock, the truss cover would cover those two holes.

I would say go for it,but that is just me...lol! I intend on keeping my RR3 and so I have no reservations on ripping in to it. I am working on doing my own pearl inlays (getting the stuff together now) to replace the MOTO.

Now it if was a USA Jackson, I would not touch it.

Get the right nippers and files if you are going to do the SS frets because you will need them so you don't ruin the tools you have.SS frets will eat up a regular crowning file in a hurry and they aint cheap.
              Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I'd say go for it but do not touch the Kahler, the 3310 is very cool, you may regret it.

I say go for whatever you want ... like you said, you're not selling the thing, and i'm assuming that you've had some pretty damn good times with that axe. If you can keep it your #1 just by adding a few mods, why not?

I'm confused now. You love it, yet it doesn't satisfy your needs...? Sell it or keep it as is!

I'd say go for it. It's cheaper then buying another guitar to get what you want. I am also not anti-kahler like some.

I voted hell no, because if you love the guitar too much to keep it forever then I guess you can live with its kahler instead of putting a tremolo in there also. If not, you can always get something better without killing your guitar's resale value.

If you do rip the 3310 off, please post it in the classifieds!

Hell yeah on both mods! I thought you were going to do a refin or something more drastic. The jumbo frets would be my first priority, I don't know why Jackson still uses the tall, thin wire on KV2s??? Mustaine left long ago
