How low? (action)

Hi All,

Seems I might need to fix this?, to me the strings seem to be up too high? This is my first Jackson BTW, so opinions would be appreciated.

Way too high! Should be around 1/16th-3/32nds at the 12th fret.

I did try searching but I won't BS you all, I only spent 5mins looking

YOu can lower the action by screwing the bridge lower into the guitar.


The posts that support the tremolo can be lowered with an Alan key.

It's all subjective. Higher action gives you better tone and sustain. Personal preference is what he should go by.

wont go down any more, im in the process of partially shimming my neck with sandpaper lol.

GMPX - does your guitar have a trem? If so, is the bridge plate parallel to the face of the guitar? If not, that could be part of the source of the problem. If that is a problem for your guitar, you'll need to tighten the screws for the claw for the trem springs. As you tighten those screws, you'll need to re-tune the guitar. And you'll need to repeat that process until you find the balance point that allows the bridge plate to sit parallel.

That's true under a lot of circumstances, but the mile high frets on the import Jacksons takes that one out of the picture. However, I do agree with your point to season to taste.

I've always thought that higher action was a win-win once you got used to it. However, I've been reading up on intonation lately, and I now believe that lower action provides for better intonation. The reason is less compensation because of less stretching of the strings. Who knew.
