Congrats on the new J1. That explains the mystery guitar. Looks well beside your semi-custom. Have you noticed any difference between the tone of your mahogany RR and your new RR (swamp ash + maple, right)?

The trans-black J1B should be ash (hard ash, not swamp ash), and yes, maple-neckthru.
The semicustom actually is a maple-neckthru too, so as you can expect differences in tone are minute at best...

I just played them side by side again and I have to say, it's hard for me to notice any difference in tone at all.
They are like identical twins, except for the fact that the trans-black one is strung with 13s and tuned to B standard now, while the trans-green one is strung with 10.5s and tuned to Eb standard (I use them in two different bands). That alone makes for more tone difference than the different wood I guess... when playing single note lines on corresponding strings, the response to picking, the punch and sustain is very similar on both guitars. Maybe a tad more sparkle in the highend on the mahogany semicustom.

It's quite confusing actually because in the past each guitar I bought was very different from the others in terms of body wood, construction, neck profile etc, so each has advantages and disadvantages compared to the others.
Now with the two RRs, I don't even know which to like better!

After getting to see the new JacksonStars catalogue with different models and price increases, I decided it was time to go on a used/NOS hunt. And I didn't waste any time...

New to my beloved family of guitars is a JacksonStars RR-J1B in trans black!

This guitar is so nice that german customs actually didn't want to let it go at first... I had to go to the customs office in Hamburg to pry the package out of their bureaucratic hands!

I already used the guitar on a live gig on Friday, unfortunately I haven't got any live shots since none of my friends took a camera to the gig.

But I borrowed a camera today and took some pics... please excuse the quality, as it is already after midnight and lighting in my room is less than decent.
