hi all, first post here. been lurking around a bit.
i have a 1993 king V std... say what you want about pointy guitars, this guitar has the best neck in the world. mojo galore! fits my hands perfectly. I put in new pickups long time ago, and it was my main guitar for a long long time. but now, it's old, and the frets are worn... i will get it refretted and it will be a good guitar again. but i am getting tired of having a pointy guitar. I got a EBMM jp6, and still having a very difficult time getting used to the neck. so i'm gonna try a dinky next. i'm not trying a soloist because, iirc, they tend to be a mm larger and wider then the dinky.
in my recent trips to GC and sam ash, i've played several of the new jacksons. i must say, their necks have gotten chunky! i just dug up the neck dimensions on my 93 kingV (1 11/16 nut width, 19mm at first fret, and 21mm at 12th fret) which is the same identical measurements as the modern DK2M's (1 11/16 nut width, .735" at first and .810 at 12th, do the conversion, you'll see that they round off to the same figures as the 1993). But why does it feel so chunky to me at the store? both old and new necks have the satin finish, both MIJ, both have the scarf cut, both maple neck. the only difference seems to be the DK2M i'm looking at has maple fingerboard. but even other dinky's with rosewood fingerboard are still chunkier then the old 93 neck.
i realize i have a problem. i'll admit i'm a neck junkie to the point of being at cork sniffer level... i will speak to my therapist about it :ROTF:
what gives?
