Ok, I have a statement and then a question. I just re-read what i'm about to post and it's basically a giant cluster fuck. you might wanna skip it.
My statement. I think the guitar looks awesome. I don't like black binding on black guitars, I think it's kind of pointless. I think red binding or silver binding would have been better on the black one and red for the red. etc. Binding should stand out, not blend in where you can't see it. It doesn't need to be there if it blends in.
Having said this it certainly isn't a deal breaker for this guitar or the RR24 I'm picking up in another month. I hate blade switches, but I also hate neck pickups.
For me it isn't a big deal because that's what this guitar has. If I had the option of changing it I would, but not at a custom shop price So I'll be very happy with just getting the black with silver one The guitar is different and it looks sweet.
My own humble opinion of it is this - there should be a PD1 which is USA select with the MOP, and white binding, and the PD2 which is this guitar. I'm not really sure why suddenly(maybe not so suddenly) signature models are all mij with plastic inlays etc. It's nice that it's cheap, but it would have been smart for there to have been a level higher that people could have purchased. It certianly would have been worth a USA select price for the guitar to me and I'm sure for others as well. You know if they built 10 of each to USA specs there'd be places like Matts music and others who'd buy them up, they wouldn't sit at Jackson for very long. How long it would take to sell from there would depend on price but if it's a USA select price I'm sure it would move.
Now my question. It's been suggested that there has been all this negative feedback to Jackson about the black binding in the RR24. Was there a letter writing campaign I missed somewhere? I'm not trying to be a smart ass about it, I'm just curious how exactly all this negative feedback is supposedly finding it's way to Jackson like some people think it's doing?
I know there's people from Jackson on this site, but I some how doubt that they base any business decisions on "Fucking jackson used black binding again!"(Obviously not a direct quote of anyone) kinds of threads. I doubt honestly that they view this forum as the be all end all opinion of their equipment.
Besides, these are import guitars. They may play as RD says like a USA guitar, but they are built and marketed to people with out a big budget. I would imagine there's a lot of PD fans who will buy these.
If you really need something to complain about, complain about their marketing (or lack of) practices. With the exception of Randy Rhoads himself when was the last time you saw a new or customshop Jackson on the cover of any magazine? If they can't sell X amount of units of this guitar, they aren't going to make any positive changes. If anything it'll be discontinued. The only way they can sell X amount of units if people know the guitar exists and is out there. If I wan't on JCF I wouldn't have a clue that this guitar or the RR24 was out because there's no adds, no cool guitarists pimping them on mags (OK PD does but I'm talking a lot broader spectrem then just one guitar) No big push to let anyone know they exist.
somewhere in all of this, even though I'm trying to be positive I'm sure I'm about to have my ass handed to me.
