  • Opinions please....

A friend of mine has been playing Fenders and Gibsons all his life, and recently picked up a Jackson, and wants to buy one. As he lives 600 miles away, he hasn't been able to play mine.

He is looking for an import, with 2 humbuckers and a floyd.

What models should I tell him to look out for on ebay,a nd which to stay away from? He doesn't have a crap load of money to spend, so he is looking for a deal.

And he pointed out a DK2 with BOF as one he likes, but it wasn't 2 humbuckers.

You don't say what kind of pickups he wants, or type of fretboard. I'd sooner vote DK2M or DKMG.

He is open about the fretboard, and I think Duncans for the pups.

I'd say (from experience) a DK2 would be a great guitar, especially since you can get them with H-H and duncans and a floyd.

I have plenty of Gibsons, 1 Fender.

A DK2 or DK2M is good if he likes a fuller neck. The DK2 is H-S-S, the DK2M is H-H.

If he wasn't picky on the pickups and likes a short scale, the old Fusions are excellent. Only one model came H-H, the Fusion HH, and it had a mahogany body.

But if he buys higher end guitars, why not step up to the plate and get a USA? Like an SL2H. The USA models (SL2H, RR1) are every bit as good as my Les Pauls. I really enjoy them.

The Fusion Plus was available as a Charvel or a Jackson, and was made from ash. It also had a 5-way selector to allow for some cool coil-splitting options

If he is short on cash and doesn't mind going the Charvel route, he can look for a used Model 5. Is H-H, has the Floyd licensed JT-6 and can probably be snagged for around (usually under) $400. And it's a neck-thru

I might need to pick up a model 5 myself.

SL4 is a great option if you can find one. Model 5 if you want the non-recessed trem.

I personally am not a fan of Jackson bolt-ons

Yeah, I definitely smell a pork product of some type.

Hey everybody. I am the friend that TexasRocks was speaking about. I really appreciate all the input and I believe that I have decided on a DK2M. That seems to be the guitar that will fit what I want the best.
