Uncle Al has gifted me a purple '98 DK-2 as of yesterday.
My first DK-2... I must say, I'm a big fan now.
Sorry, no pics yet, but they will be forthcoming shortly.
It needed some TLC... previous owner neglected her a bit.
Last night, between posts, I did the following to her:
-Fret leveling
-new strings
-Truss rod adjustment
-Cleaned up dings on the back side of the neck (finish removed, and oiled... nice and smoof now)
-3 out of 6 of the tuners were broken (overtightened ferrule nuts, popped the barrel off the body of the tuner... junk)... replaced with Jackson black tuners I had hanging around, but kept the pewter ferrule nuts and washers.
-bridge replaced due to one of the saddles being junk... went with a black JT-500 I had laying around (for now), kept the pewter trem arm
-replaced pewter vol/tone with black
All in all, she set up very very sweetly... and the mix of pewter and black against the purple looks very tasty indeed.
Bridge pickup is a Dimarzio Super 3... and I must say it's rather honkin'
I think I have found my new favorite Dimarzio pickup... very sweet/hot/warm, with less treble than what it expected to hear... almost like you rolled the tone knob back about 1/4 of a turn, but still very crisp.
Thanks Uncle Al!
You continue to amaze me with your generosity and brotherly kindness!
