PS4 Rehab

I have a trans green PS4, im pretty sure its a japanese made model, bought it new years ago, liked the neck and color, at the time it played pretty decent

But anyway, it hasnt held up well, the trem is crap, the pickups suck, and all the hardware is falling apart

Need to make it playable

Im going to strip it and redo it

having the neck refretted with 6100 dunlop wire

What trem can i replace the crap floyd copy with?

Im thinking the GOTOH Floyd and SG38 Gotoh tuners

Pickups will more than likely be replaced with a Dimarzio Super Distortion bridge and a Super 2 at the neck, thinking of adding a Afterburner or PA-2

Opinions?

Hi.

Routing of JT-500 (which is used in PS-4) is nearly like Schaller. You may also swap this tremolo to Jackson's JT-590. You can read more about this on my favourite page about Jacksons > http://audiozone.dk/index-filer/TremoloInfoProject.htm

Original Jackson tuners aren't so bad. Maybe it's necessary to tighten or loosen adjusting screws on them.

DiMarzio... I don't use, don't like. So I say nothing.

I've got two of these... great guitars.
Yeah, the electronics/pickups are lame, and the trem is not the best (although mine have not been worked very hard and are still fine).
Gotoh or Schaller or OFR will work from the trem side of things... athough the OFR may require shorter locking screws in order to fit the route (easy enough to do).
I replaced the pickups on my first one with an Ibanez set (V2/S1/V1), which are very Dimarzio-like... and it just rips.
On my other one, I put a SD Dime in the bridge, and Gibson PAF in the neck... another ripper.
Others here have gone with EMG with good results.
Seems to be kinda tough to go wrong, and more a matter of taste when it comes to pickups.
Pots and switches are generally crap, and worthy of swapping out as well.
In general, these PS-4's have a good reputation as an affordable Jackson worthy of upgrades.
The necks are considered some of the most thin that Jackson ever made.

i like the tone of the Super Distortion over anything else i heard, It just sound like "METAL" to me, hopefully with a booster it will gain a lil more balls

Get a schaller trem. same trem as the jackson 590 so it has the same block size as the 500.

I have one in my DK-2 and it's got some serious growl...
I bet it would kick ass in the PS-4

I like the Super, its the original, I play through a fender 212R frontman, and use a TS7 tube screamer and MXR M-104 for distortion

I like that Old school Metal Tone

I wanna try the Gotoh over the Schaller, i understand they are very similar, and the gotoh may be as quality for a lil less $$$$
