  • Sl3

Hey guys. I'm really leaning towards ordering an SL3. I was wondering if anyone would share their opinions or experiences with this guitar?

I know it's made in Japan, neck-through, Duncans, S-S-H. it seems like it would be a solid axe.

How does it compare with the big dogs and what's a fair price to pay if I want to go used?

    Thanks!

I had one in trans red before the switch to OFR's. It was a great guitar and I wish I had kept it.

    With an OFR they're fantastic.

As far as current prices go, I'd say $550ish for the jt580lp version and $700ish for the OFR version.

How much should you be paying in the UK? I've just done a google search, and the cheapest I've seen for a new one is on average £700 for a trans-finish SL3.
      Fuck ebay, fuck paypal

You can get lucky on eBay. I got mine from Soundslive, it was "new old stock", and I only paid £500 for it. I was well chuffed with that price, but then some guy came on here not long after and had won one on eBay for something like £300!

The SL3 is the best guitar I've ever played or owned. I've never owned a USA made Gibson, Jackson, Fender etc, so I'm no expert. But I can say I really love the SL3 and find it to be an incredible instrument with no need for upgrades to pickups or anything like that as you'd need to do on many guitars of this price range. The JB is ideal for most rock and metal, is excellent for both rythm and soloing and the combination of the Hot Rails in neck and middle are great too, particularly the neck for smooth solos. Personally, I'd prefer maybe a Cool Rails in the middle, but that's just for different tonal options.

Be aware though, they are heavy guitars, almost on a par with a Les Paul, and the necks are pretty big.

Mine, my wife says this looks like crap (she likes my RR3 though!):

I can sort of see why. I imagine people will love or hate natural finishes, personally I wouldn't buy a natural, I don't hate them, but I definitely prefer the other trans finishes. Plus, your RR3 is a beauty!
          I like maple fretboards. :P
