If you want that "dave mustiane tone" he uses the jazz neck and a JB in the bridge, or try his live wires actives that hes using now. Im not a big fan of them i like the EMG's .

He use a Bill Lawrence XL500 in the neck and I think a Jackson 90 seeries pickup in the bridge. This was during the late 80's early 90's

Someone with better info will post.

Duncan Live wires and the other JBs and Jazz pickups will get you a different tone but close. I would buy an exact replacement for my King V pro but those pickups are getting harder to find.

Seems like a wiring problem. Just take it in to your guitar tech to have a look at it.

You probably don't need new pickups.

Mustaine used JB/Jazz through a Rocktron Prophesy preamp into a Marshall 100/100 EL34 power amp up until Risk. Now I'm not sure what amp he's using (was a custom Line6 for a little bit), but I'd guess he's using the Livewire pickups.

Do you like the Duncan distortion ?
I have the Jb on my Rhoads pro and it sounds really good , but I don't want the same pickup on the King V ...

I think Brooke was right, your tech will fix that problem very quick

my tech said that the Bill Lawrance has a problem , the feedback is too strong ... I'm quite sure that the pickup is ok , can be possible that the tech made an error with the cables ? I remember that when i bought the guitar the BL was in parallel ... do you know the correct configuration of the cables for the BL pick?

Here's the wiring for the Bill Lawrence pickups from "Bill and Becky Lawrence"

                      Black - lead wire (hot)
                      Red - ground
Green&White wire together and tape off
There is a Blue wire but it's only for coil tapping, tape this off by itself.
This is for standard parrallel humbucker configuration.
                      (same as a Gibson)

                      "Bill Lawrence USA" diagram:
                      Red - lead wire (hot)
Green&White wire together and tape off
                      Black&Bare wire - Ground

The Bill and Becky version can be identified by the following:
                      *Thicker blades
                      *Wires are unsheathed
*Bill Lawrence Autograph on the bottom

Not sure if your pups are the factory stock ones or not, and I'm unsure which version Jackson used primarily.
***Check to see what color goes to the volume pot, that's the best way to verify which version you have***
My friend has a '97 RR1 and it had the "other" Lawrences,
Which are inferior. Scrap them and get the real ones from B&B Lawrence.
Hope I was of some help? Good Luck

It sounds to me like a wiring issue.

I didn't like the BL in my KV Pro. I swapped both pickups out for EMGs. I like the EMG 85(bridge), & 81(neck) configuration which is currently how the KV is setup. I'm thinking the 85/85 might be the way to go though as I think the 81 in the neck is still a little to "shrill" for my liking.

If anyone is interested I am willing to part with my old KV pickups. Just send me a PM & we can discuss.
KV DM PRO, SLSXMG, RRXMG, DXMG, LP P90 Goldtop_GSP1101_RM4: JF SL-OD100_Randall RT2/50_Peavey 4x12 cab
I'm loving the Jaded Faith mods. Going Egnater Dual mod route: Voxless, SL-OD100, Brahma #39, QuickMod GT
