  • The DK2T

Alright, it's that time of year again. It's time for me to get a new guitar. My current main guitar is a DK2 which I'm quite happy with but I'm looking for a new, hardtail (if possible) guitar.

I've been looking at the DK2T and it seems like it could be nice. I know the local music shoppe has a DK2T in stock so I've been thinking about trying and possibly buying it.

What do you guys think of it? I know a few of you have them so do you think they're worth it?

If not the Dk2T, then what can you recommend that is not one of the following brands:

    - Ibanez (Evil!)
    - Dean (Capitalist pigs who abuse dead artists' legacy and put out crap that's uglier than anything else I've seen)
    - Schecter (They make up for being small in the pants by having thick necks(I hate them) and fancy finishes)

Any other brand is fair game. It doesn't necessarily have to be a "metal" guitar. I'd be quite happy with a new Strat type-thing too. As long as the neck works for me, I'm happy. I would prefer 24 frets but I can live with 22 and, as stated before, it needs to be a hardtail (Ex:TOM and all that stuff). I got about 800ish bucks to work (I'm trading in a bass that has collected dust for the last 8 months and I'm only gonna lose $40 off what I payed for it so not bad for a trade in) with and I wanna buy local so fleaBay is not an option. Also, if you can recommend any 7's that would also work I may pay attention to that too though that isn't as important.

Oh, and I have access to basically any semi-mainstream brand between the 5 local shops. Fire away!

What I like: Mine plays better than any import Jackson I've picked up and is on par with USAs imo. Has a nice crunch, solid bass response, and stays in tune very well. The finish job is excellent. Built really well, and sustains for days. Action is so low you can't get paper under it and it's pretty much buzz free. The rosewood cut on mine looks great as well

What I dislike: Hardware finish has mostly gone to the dogs save for the tuners. It's on it's second nut, and the frets are showing wear after 2 years, but this could be due to it being heavily played. The stock wiring job never grounded right. I also thought the Duncan Jazz sounded a bit weak in the neck.

There's always the DKMGT. EMG's, hardtail, carved top body. Only thing missing are the sharkfins.

I have the dk2t in cobalt blue and owned it from new for about 18months. Was played constant until i got my PRS CE24 and i never had any problems. Took out the JB/Jazz after about 6 months, and replaced with a Bareknuckle nailbomb in bridge and a EMG HZ in Neck. Good guitar for the £400 i paid for it.
Think the transparent colours look better, but i went for blue because i couldn't wait the 12 weeks for them to arrive into the UK

well at the time i bought it from an internet firm which subsequently went bust and they didnt have in transparent black, but had cobalt blue in stock, so i went for that instead.
They probably couldn't be arsed to order me one and so lengthened the delivery time?

Jackson makes great guitars so go for it! I like hardtails & string thru models for one reason. I can change tunings fast.

Can't be arsed is more accurate. My ex-DK2S was already in Birmingham and it took the Nottingham store over 6-8 weeks to get it off them. Likewise, when you order something out of stock, suppliers will only send in bulk..... hence 12 weeks.

My regular DK2 is transparent black and I think it looks pretty decent.

I'm pretty sure I already knew that to be honest. I've been playing guitar for four years. I've had a Jackson for 2, wanted one for the 2 before that. At least once a week I wear my Jackson t-shirt with pride (speaking of which, I gotta get a new one, my old one's getting so worn out it's getting holes in it where the fabric's wearing thin.). The weird thing is that I've never really been a brand loyalist for anything; I couldn't give less of a crap what brand clothing I'm wearing or anything like that. The only brand I'm really a "loyalist" for is Jackson due to my amazing experience with my DK2. I used to like Ibeenhad but after an incredibly bad experience I got with a guitar of theirs it's safe to say I will probably never buy another one.

Of course there's been dudes who have been playing Jacksons longer than me but I think I'm a loyal Jackson guy.

Oh, and yes, the reason I want string-though/hardtail is for quick tuning changes (which aren't really possible on my DK2)

Now i have it in cobalt blue i wouldn't change it and i don't regret having it in that colour. I like blue anyway and it goes well with my PRS which is in whale blue.
My Dean VMNT is in silver though!
