  • help for possible jap jackson

    Hi

I'm new to the world of pointy headstocks but I've been playing Les Pauls and Strats for 20 years. I played a friends Charvel Model 2 and very quickly but one for myself, Model 3. What a freakin neck I then decided to try and get hold of a jackson as well. I bought what i think is a jap
(s/n 922624 but I don't know really what ive got.

From what i see, all jacksons with Professional on the headstock are japs. I'm trying to id the trem. If you check the photos, you see why. I bought it 2nd hand for cheap money (85GBP) but the G string lock screw has been stripped and has been replaced with an ordinary screw. I knew this when bought it thinking that id be able sort it properly. i know it's not a jt6 because thats what ive on the Model 3

I think the original bridge pup has been replaced and the trem cavity cover is missing but I think I really like this thing so it would be nice to know what is im playing. The neck feels great to play and it sounds good.

I've nosed around the interweb but there SO many models and opinions I just ened up getting bloody confused

Anyway, sorry for the long post, hope someone can help me out

    cheers
    CH

Looks like a JT-580 to me, but I'm not an expert by any means.

Audiozone.dk has some great info here: http://audiozone.dk/index-filer/TremoloInfoProject.htm

Yeah man, saw that but they have zero info on my main suspect, the JT-580 Takeuchi (my trem block has Takeuchi stamped on it) but you're right. There's load of interesting stuff there.

check your scale length. That looks like a Fusion SS. If the scale is 24 3/4", that will confirm it

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the solid color Fusions have a cut away on the lower horn? Or was it only some of them with some finishes. I know modern Jacksons are that way, but the Fusions always throw me.

Not all Fusion's had the scalloped lower horn.
            It's a 1992 Fusion SS.

The trem is a JT-580... looks like someone "repaired" a string lock.

Ta very much fellas, thanks for cracking that.

I'm finding that, in my case, the 580 doesn't behave as well as the JT6. The G string actually stays in tune pretty well but the other strings give me a serious hard time, even after only moderate diving. Any suggestions for a whole replacement?

Get a real Floyd. It will fit in the existing route and it will be able to use the existing posts.
It's literally a drop in replacement.

Ok, OFR it is but is there a particular model to go for?

Model??? Just get a standard Floyd Rose... stay away from the low-profile Floyd as it won't fit properly in the recessed route.

I figured that might seem like a dumb question but, like I said, I'm new to floating trems, so I wanted to be sure. Thanks for your help.
